If he also knows about him personally then he wouldn't have a problem with him as Mufti Menk is not a misguided character. He gave an idiotic Interview and uttered non-sense.
A famous speaker from Hyderabad called Maulana Abid Khan رحمة الله عليه passed away in 2012. And was connected to Tabligh Jamaat acquired a very large following. Tens of Thousands of people used to come to hear him speak.
Then people from far and wide specifically started making requests for him to come and speak at Ijtemahs. Once this started happening the elders banned him from speaking at public ijtemas.
They were worried it could lead to fitnah both for him and the audience. The people were developing a cult of personality around him rather then focusing on the message he was delivering.
After several years once his fame had evaporated they told him to start speaking again.
Strange how times have changed and how Ulemah used to run away from fame and adulation only a few decades ago.
I don't really know what mufti menk thinks about jihad, homosexuality, touching non mehram etc. But some of the things he says can definitely be misleading.
Madkhalees and South Africans have found an opportunity to bash Mufti Menk, both bedfellows in "kicking people" off the Manhaj. His Interview and words are appalling but he isn't a misguided lunatic as been claimed in this thread.
As far as "Celebrity Scholars" is concerned, Mufti Menk is actually an extremely humble person as is witnessed by thousands around the world and certainly well grounded and connected.
Guy has made a colossal mistake and will probably make some more when dealing with Media but he isn't the first to fall for these things in the Media
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
