Prophet Dawood (عليه السلام) used to spend a considerable amount of his time in the mountains where he would make dhikrullah (rememrance of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى) in abundance. One day, while walking, he found himself at the mouth of a cave. To his amazement, he saw an enourmous corpse spread out on the floor. Close to the head of the corpse, there was a tombstone with the words:
"My name is King Waisam. I ruled for one thousand years, during which period I conquered one thousand cities. I defeated one thousand armies and married one thousand princesses. Despite all my accomplishments, my end result is before you. Sand is my covering and a stone is my pillow. Now that you have seen my condition, ensure that the life of this world does not deceive you."[Jawahir Pare, vol 3, p 114; al-Kanzul Madfoon]
