Etiquettes Regarding The Mobile Phone
In The Masjid
Whilst going to the masjid one should switch off one's mobile completely. Failure to do so will result in it being a means of disturbance to others chance it should go off, let alone being disrespectful in the house of Allah. As is the case with many people, the phone is left on vibration mode. This is also not wise, as if it was to off it will not only disturb that person's salaah as his mind will be diverted from the salaah as his attention will go to the phone, the person next to him will also be perturbed by this. Likewise, many people immediately after the salaam check their phones for possible missed calls or messages before even performing their sunnah. This is not only incorrect but also very disrespectful because it shows that although one was physically standing in the court of Allah mentally he was elsewhere. We should switch our phones off before entering the masjid, and until we do not leave, do not pay attention towards it.
Free Minutes
We all know about the amount of free minutes that are available on the various contracts and the craze of gathering and using many minutes as possible.
Just because we have a contract of 500 minutes does not necessarily mean that we have to use all of these 500 minutes before the end of the month. Why should we talk unnecessarily and waste the precious minutes of our life for the sake of finishing off the free minutes on our contract.
Ring Tones
One should make sure that one has an appropriate ring tone for his mobile. Many people keep musical tones on their phone. This is in correct as the playing of music, or being a means of it being played is a sin, even if one switches it off before coming in to the Masjid. And for these types of tones to ring in the Masjid is extremely disrespectful. This craze has taken us to such an extent that even whilst performing tawaaf in front of the Ka'bah, or presenting salaam to the Prophet, we are involved in such a great sin.
It is inappropriate to have the Adhaan or recitation of the Qur'aan as ring tones. The Qur'aan and Adhaan are great signs of Islam and it deserves its due respect. Thus to use it to inform us that a friend of ours is ringing us on our mobile is very incorrect and disrespectful.
SMS
One should not forward each and every text message he receives. One should ensure that the message is Islamically correct. A trend nowadays is to send eid and jumuah greetings via text message. However, more often than not the story or phrase used as part of the message is not authentic. In such a case one inadvertently becomes a means of propagating something which is concocted.
Another point to keep in mind is to whom are you sending the message, if the person is senior then appropriate words must be used.
One should ensure at the end of the text message he writes his name, because it is possible that the recipient may not have your numbered saved on his mobile, which will lead to him being confused as to who the message is from.
