The New Year
Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Saleem Dhorat Sahib
A Muslim does not celebrate the New Year because he understands that his life has become one year shorter. You will never find a businessman celebrating the end of the financial year before auditing his accounts of the year which has just ended. Similarly, we have also been sent into this world as traders. Wealth and life are our commodities. These need to be spent correctly in order to purchase Jannah.
We should view the year that has just passed from this perspective and take stock of our lives during that year. If good deeds have been performed then we should thank Allah and resolve to continue. If wrong was done, then forgiveness should be sought and a firm intention made to refrain from it in the future. Thereafter plan to spend the coming year, rather the entire life, in seeking the pleasure of Allah.
