Assalamu Alaykum,

Was in the process of translating [perhaps a bit too word for word] the story for the topic: Short Story - Master Saheb Lost Wage, couldn't not post it now so as bint Mohammed has already translated and posted it there, I'm posting this as a separate topic.

Master Sahib's Wage

[In the Classroom of Sixth Class]

All students: Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

Master Sahib (Teacher): Wa Alaykum Salam Wa Rahmatullah. Be Seated.

A student ('Urwah): Sir! What's the matter? Today you are looking very worried.

Master Sahib: Oh nothing, nothing. Leave this matter. Begin your Lesson.

'Urwah: No sir! We wont be able to learn like this.

Master Sahib: Well the problem is, I received my wages yesterday. I placed it in an envelope and kept it in my pocket. Then at the time of leave I went away home in my motor cycle. In the evening when I required some money I put my hands in my pocket, and the envelope with the salary had vanished.

All students: Ohhh!

Master Sahib: Allah knows when and where that envelope might have dropped. Anyhow, Allah is the Master.

Master Sahib: I have taken out the register, you people give your attendance. Jameel?

Jameel: Present, sir!

Master Sahib: 'Urwah?

'Urwah: Present, sir!

Master Sahib: Shafeeq?

Shafeeq: Present, sir!

Master Sahib: Zubair?

Zubair: Present, sir!

...

Master Sahib: All right children, now take your books out and first relate yesterday's lesson.

A student: Sir! You look very worried. Today you ought to take leave.

Master Sahib: No brother, what was to happen has happened. I will not take leave without reason.

'Urwah: How much is you wages, sir?

Master Sahib: Four thousand rupees

Narrator: Then he started to teach the class. On the finishing of the period, he went out of the classroom. Rapidly, it became known to every teacher of the school, that Master Hudhaifa's salary was missing. They all coming one after another began to express their sorrow to him.

Narrator: After the partial period in the school, it was half-time. All the students gathered on all sides of the school's canteen and became occupied in eating and drinking. The Sixth Class were about to go out, when the monitor said in a raised voice:

Monitor ('Urwah): All students stay for a bit. Azzam, you close the door of this room.

Azzam: Yes alright.

[Closes door]

A student: Yes Brother 'Urwah? What do you wish to say?

'Urwah: Friends, our teacher, Master Hudhaifa is very worried, because his whole month's wages have dropped somewhere. Plan is that in our class their are one hundred and twenty students. If we combine few, few money and collect four thousand rupees, Master Sahib's worry can be removed.

Many students: Yes that's well, we're ready!

'Urwah: So then in each student's share comes 34 rupees. That money can be gathered in my observation.

A Student: Brother 'Urwah, this method is not right. Many of the students may be poor and many of them may not have money. That's why, what should be done is, all students give how much money they can. Those who cannot give, don't give.

'Urwah: Absolutely right. I am including fifty rupees from my behalf.

Narrator: Afterwards, from all student's pocket's notes of fives and tens began to come out. Many students also gave one or two rupees.

'Urwah: Take it brother. Four thousand and fifty rupees have been collected. Problem has been solved.

A student: No sir! Problem has not been solved.

Many students: How is that?

Second student: What, will Master Sahib take this money from us? He will never take it.

'Urwah: Yes, that is so. Then what should be done?

First student: Let's send this money as money order on his address.

Third student: But what will we write for the name and address of the sender?

Second student: Let's write a fake name and address.

Third student: If he does not collect the money order, the money will be wasted.

'Urwah: He will not return the money order. An arrangement has come in my mind. That is that beneath the money order they have a coupon. On it we will write:

"Sir Master Sahib, I found this money dropped on the road. I learnt that this is your salary. I myself cannot come, that is why I am sending this to you by means of a money order."

Many students: Very good!

Narrator: After this all the students went out of the classroom. 'Urwah brought the money order from the post office, and filling in the amount, he kept it. After leave, five or six students arrived at a nearby post office, and on Master Hudhaifa's name and house address they sent the money order of four thousand rupees.

*****

[Doorbell rings at Master Sahib's house]

Master Sahib: Who is it brother?

[Opens door]

Postman: Postman. Sir your money order has come.

Master Sahib: Money order? In my name? Who has sent it?

Postman: Sir it's written underneath on the coupon, you may read it.

Narrator: When Master Sahib read the recorded writing, he became very happy and collected the money.

*****

Narrator: Next day when Master Sahib arrived at school in a happy state, the students became pleased on seeing the signs of happiness on his countenance.

Master Sahib: Beloved children, today I am very happy.

'Urwah: Sir! Will you relate to us also your happy news to include us in your happiness?

Master Sahib: Yesterday, from an unknown individual my salary was received through a money order. He had written that he had found the money dropped on the roads. On the envelope was even my name.

"I myself cannot come, therefore sending the money as a money order."

'Urwah: Sir! That is very joyous news. Someone was a very honest person.

Master Sahib: Allah accept this goodness of his, and rectify his life and hereafter.

Narrator: The news of the finding of the money, spread in the entire school like a jungle fire. All the teachers were congratulating him and praising the unknown individual. But, next day when Master sahib entered the classroom, his face had signs of worry.

A student: Sir! What happened? You appear worried again today.

Master Sahib: Well what happened is that, I went home from school and lying on my bed, my glance fell upon an envelope dropped under the table. When I stooped and picked up the envelope, it was that envelope that had been missing. And in it the total wages were even present. My thinking is that the money from my pocket had dropped there.

'Urwah: So sir what is of worry in that?

Master Sahib: I am worried because when the money had dropped in my home, who has done the money order?

'Urwah: Sir, If you have double salary, what is of worry in that matter? It could be that a well-wisher of your's has sent it.

Master Sahib: What is this you are saying? That I do not even learn which kind-hearted has sent this money of mine?

'Urwah: If it becomes known to you, what will you do?

Master Sahib: With thanks, I will return this money. And I will never forget this beneficence of his.

'Urwah: Sir! I can tell you his name. But perhaps it will be that you will not return this money.

Master Sahib: That cannot be. The money I will undoubtedly return.

'Urwah: Friends, my opinion is that sir should be informed of the whole matter. Otherwise he will be lost in confusion. Which is not a good thing.

Many students: Yes that's well!

Narrator: 'Urwah related everything to Master Sahib. He (Master Sahib) was left struck with amazement. He said in a jittery voice:

Master Sahib: You.. you care this much for your Master's worry? My children, you are very honourable.

Narrator: Then Master Sahib related to the headmaster and other teachers about the work of his class.

*****

Narrator: Next morning in the assembly period, Headmaster Sahib did a speech. About Master Hudhaifa Sahib's salary going missing, and regarding those students' achievement he revealed it fully to all the children. Afterwards he said:

Headmaster: I am giving applause to all the students of Sixth Class, and instructing them to increase their work.

Master Sahib: I call upon my class monitor 'Urwah to come forward and take his money from me. And to return everyone's given amount to them.

Narrator: All the students of his class began to talk with one another. Then one student came on the stage, and he said:

Student: That money that has been spent on a virtuous cause, should not be taken back. Our teacher is persisting on returning the money. That is why we have made this decision, that this little money be collected for the library fund of the school. Our library has very few books. From this money, knowledge, science, history and Islamic books can be bought. So that students have the interest of studying, and that their knowledge increases.

Narrator: All the students and teachers of the school, without realising began to clap. The clapping had just began, when the headmaster's voice echoed:

Headmaster: On joyous occasions it is not proper to clap. Rather, SubhanAllah, MashaAllah or Allahu Akbar should be said.
