Cricket World Cup

Taken from Masjid Darul Ehsan

Its that time again when people are glued to their transistors and T.V. screens, carefully following the cricket World Cup.

Has it ever occurred to you that the game of cricket can be compared to our lives in this world. Let me tell you why.

In the game of cricket the batsmen will do his utmost to protect his wicket from the ball delivered by the bowler.
In a similar manner man, in the game of life, must do his utmost to protect his Imaan, from the attack of bowler Shaytaan, who has promised Allah that he will concentrate his efforts in bowling down your Imaan. The Quran in Surah 'Araaf (Surah 7 Verse 17) bears testimony to this

"Then I will approach them (mankind) from before them and from behind them, from their right and from their left"

In cricket the bowler varies his pace, length and type of delivery in order to beat the batsman. Bowler Shaytaan also does the same:

Ball number one may come in the form of making you neglect Salaah.
Ball number two may be an instigation towards becoming vulgar and abusive.
Ball number three may be a suggestion to cheat and be fraudulent.
Ball number four may be an impulse to disobey ones parents.
Ball number five may be temptation towards Zina.
Ball number six may be a real googly -just when you feel that you're treading the right path, Shaytaan inspires you with righteous pride and contempt for those you perceive as being less pious.

The batsman needs to deflect and strike Shaytaan with the bat of Islam. And like the cricket batsman you need to be alert and quick on your feet.

Like the World Cup, man is playing a match of limited overs. You just don't know how many overs you are going to last, whether you will be run out or what will be the last ball that you will face. Once you're out, you're out.

The only runs that count are those that you make during the game, no matter how well you play after your innings.
It does not change your score.
After death man's plight is the same, man will plead to Allah to send him back to the game of life:

"O my Lord send me back that I may do a good deed" (Surah 23 Verse 98-99)

During the game the batsman is safe only when he is positioned in his crease. So too is a Muslim safe when he is positioned within the Shariah.

Remember, the game of life has no second innings.

Imran Khan warns of Pakistan cricket's death as blame game over flop show begins.

Ummah is waiting to offer janazah prayers of cricket in Pakistan. millions of man hours are lost in this game. It takes away precious time of ummah on Salah, Fasting, taraweeh, nafl ibaadah, zikr o azkaar.

And nothing will be lost by ummah if cricket is buried in pakistan. Nothing was lost when hockey was buried.

This break is breaking the backbone of ummah. Billions of man hours are lost due to cricket.

Why cricket is famous is sub-continent. Because sub-continent people are known for unplanned entertainment/breaks. Break is required when you work hard, then it is recommended to relax. If you are in relaxing mood the entire day, then it is a disease, cricket must die in sub-continent, the earlier the better.

foot ball, basketball don't run for whole day. And I don't think, in the west, they watch games during office hours, or some one closes his business the entire day to watch cricket.

No one does that in india either. Stop exaggerating. Cricket may be on in the background but no one closes their businesses for it. If your gripe is with unemployed then they'll just find some other form of entertainment to pass time.

HARAAM SPORT – THE FOLLY OF THE BABOON CULT

Even intelligent non-Muslims understand the evil and folly of kuffaar sport. In his book, A MODERN UTOPIA, H. G. Wells states:

“Men of honour don’t waste their lives in such folly (called sports).

THE ILLUSION OF SPORTS CULTURE

By Maseeh Ghani

Over a century ago, sports culture had hardly developed to the level of magnitude it is today. There were no professional leagues, stadiums, or superstar athletes. Sports were localized and it didn’t spread much farther than that. Adults would play a lot less of it, of course. SPORTS AND OTHER GAMES WERE PLAYED USUALLY DURING ONE’S CHILDHOOD AND YOUTHFUL YEARS.

So the fact of the matter is, the massive sports culture we see today was artificially created to secure profit and greater political power. Remember that power can be achieved much more easily if people’s attention is over-proportionately focused on entertainment rather than the actual events that take place on a day-to-day basis — the ones that actually shape the world we live in.

THE PLAN

In the old days, the closest thing we had to the sports entertainment of today were the Olympic games, but they only happened every few years. Eventually, the idea came to build massive stadiums for regular sports, and such stadiums were built around the world. The intent behind it was to draw,

“THE DULL, COWARDLY AND BASE IN THOUSANDS TO ADMIRE, AND HOWL (LIKE BABOONS), AND BET.”

When athletes become high-paid celebrities, they degenerate into “a sort of athletic prostitute, with all the defects, all the vanity, trickery, and self-assertion of the common actor, and with even less intelligence.” — H. G. Wells, A Modern Utopia.

Wells also said that,

“MEN OF HONOUR (THE ‘ELITE’) DON’T WASTE THEIR LIVES IN SUCH FOLLY (CALLED SPORTS).”

The plan picked up great steam with the invention of television and sports broadcasting. The field completely changed, entertainment was at people’s feet, and the love of sports grew to a whole different level. Stadiums had to be rebuilt and modernized after the invention of television to serve the growing numbers of spectators.

The stadiums had to become fancier and the lights had to shine brighter so the spectators could become more comfortable and engaged. It was essentially the newest form of ‘Breads and Circuses.’ The ruling elite in Ancient Rome employed similar tactics. They created a culture where the masses would be too distracted to care about anything important, as the Roman poet Juvenal described it:

“Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses.” — Juvenal, Satire X

REALITY CHECK

For those of us that are passionate about sports, it’s important from time to remind ourselves about what truly matters in this world. All of the national teams that compete against each other at the end of the day are all part of the same team.

The illusion of tribal warfare that goes on in sports needs to be treated as such. And if you’re truly and honestly going to do that, then all the energy, angst, passion, and excitement that goes towards your favourite sport could be going towards the real events that take place in the world around you. For a lot of people this isn’t the case, as some of us are more fascinated by the simulation rather than the actual thing.

(End of article)

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

“Every sport of the Mu’min is baatil (false and haraam) except his play with his horse, bow and wife.

The Qur’aan Majeed repeatedly warns and reminds us about the evil and futility of sports.

“The life of this world is but play and amusement while the abode of the Aakhirat is best for those who fear (Allah). What have you no intelligence?”

Most sports are layani in the truest sense. There are people who will rationalize some sports such as football and squash as important for fitness but the fact remains fitness can be maintained without these sports and most other ones as well.

If you care so much for fitness take up swimming as a sport and as a Sunnah. Rewards for the akhirah and fitness for the dunya.

Playing cricket, football, hockey, table tennis, shuttle badminton, basket ball etc for 1 or 2 hours to keep fit is recommended.

But watching someone play is waste of time and other resources..

Everyone is aware of the incident between Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه and his son. His father presented Hadith and what was said. He didn’t speak to his son after that incident. Even though in that incident Shaabah رضي الله تعالى عنهم had enacted Ijma' on preventing women from the Masjid.

The Hadith is clear:

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

“Every sport of the Mu’min is baatil (false and haraam) except his play with his horse, bow and wife.

Even after seeing a clear Hadith, a person makes light of it. Sahabah رضوان الله تعالى عليهم اجمعين would have our heads on a platter.

Look at how deplorable our state is. Everyone looking to win some points or to display some superficial knowledge.

Putrid behaviour from individuals who can’t tell left from right.

One should drown himself in a river!

Excerpts for the edification of said individuals:

As for 'developing a robust physique, this is another display of stupidity. Even if it be assumed that sport baatil sport does engender or develop 'robust physique', pork too satiates hunger and provides food. Riba also provides easy money and zina provides gratification for immoral and inordinate carnal lust. Worldly benefits may not be pursued, and needs may not be satisfied by haraam means. To develop robust physique it is haraam to adopt baatil and haraam methods such as vulgar and immoral sport.

Furthermore, robust physique is not reliant on baatil sports. Sport has never been the method for developing robust physique and stamina. In fact, the robust physique necessary for these haraam games of sport is developed in ways which produce physical fitness and robust physique. Thus, sportsmen who indulge in haraam sport undergo much physical training, doing numerous and prolonged physical fitness exercises to develop the stamina necessary for their sporting activities. A boxer does not indulge in sport for developing the necessary stamina and robust physique for his profession.

There are legitimate ways of developing the body physically and to gain stamina and robust physique. There are numerous physical exercises, swimming, running, horse riding, martial arts, etc. which produce robust physique. Indulgence in baatil sports with all its concomitant vulgarities, immoralities and evil is never for Muslims. For those for whom this earth is a paradise, indulgence in carnality, nafsaaniyat and shaitaaniyat is quite logical and acceptable. But for an Ummah who has been created for the Aakhirah, the vile and satanic advocacy of the NNB Jamiat (or sarkash Tablighis- not from author) defies all Imaani logic.

Excerpt:

Lahw-La'b (sport, amusement, futility): What the Fuqaha say "Every sport is impermissible because Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: "Every sport of the son of Aadam is baatil except his play with his wife, training with his horse and practising with his bow." (Al-Jaamius Sagheer, Vol. 1, page 483) Explaining the prohibition of backgammon and chess, it is mentioned in Tabyeenul Haqaaiq, Vol. 6, page 414: "Playing with backgammon, chess and every sport is not permissible because Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: Every sport of Ibn Aadam (i.e. of man) is haraam except three: his play with his wife, his training with his horse, and his practising with his bow."

Al-Bahrur Raaiq, Vol. 8, page 236: "Playing with chess, backgammon and every sport are not permissible because Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: Every play of Ibn Aadam is haraam except three........"

In the kitaab, Majma-ul Anhaar fi Sharhi Muntaqil Abhur, Vol. 4, page 222 it is mentioned:

"Playing with backgammon, chess and arba' ashar which is a sport adopted by the Yahood, and every other sport are haraam because Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: 'Every sport of Ibn Aadam is haraam.

In Fataawa Hindiyyah is stated that there is consensus of all Math-habs that every sport is haraam except chess which according to the Ahnaaf, Hanaabilah and Maalikiyyah is haraam while Makrooh according to the Shaafi Math-hab. Besides this slight difference pertaining to chess, there is Ijma' of the Math-habs that all sport is haraam.
