Muslim categories: Which one are you?

Gangster Life Muslim

Belief & Practice: Err..well Im Muslim. Yeah thats right, Im Muslim, because my parents are, but I aint really got a clue about it. Ive never really gone to a mosque. Practise wise, well.I dont eat Pork, and definitely dont drink beer in Ramadan!

Education: I aint got none. Didnt have any time. Too busy with my boyz. Got kicked out of school for bunking and beefing too much.

Income: Well, scams and ting, innit. If I get desperate, I jack some mans, got my boyz as back up like. But Im smart, so I usually teef instead, or swipe. That way mans dont get
clocked. Man I hate prisons.

Social Life: Its heavy blud, Where do I start? Ok, I'll summarise. hanging out on street corners, PFC, some clubbin, booze, drugs, cars, music, fashion and beefing. Get the plot?

Opinion on Self: Manz tink Im unique u get me, but I know all the tings I do and say is juzz like every next man. But what can you do, its life. Its how its supposed to be. At least Im trynna, you get me?

Afterlife: Bludd, dont watch that! I know my lifes heading straight for Hell. Dats why Im living life to the Max, trynna get the most of it before Death. If Im not gonna get the best of the next life, then I might as well in this life. [grinning away]..its why my life is so Messed Up and full of crime man, people fink Im Nuts. If you want most of this life, you gotta be
crazy and willing to lose everything, I mean friends, family, daam man cant even speak English.

On-The-Fence Muslim

Belief & Practice: Yeah, Im Muslim bro. I believe in Islam, Allah, the Quran and stuff. Im not into religion, but I do go Jummah and definitely dont eat Pork! I do McDonalds & stuff, only after saying Bismillah though.

Education: Got some GCSEs. To be honest, I got carried away with the Romeo flex and messed up. Not really studying now and dont have the motivation anymore.

Income: Well Im on the dole for now. But Im looking for a job though, its tough out there. Dont worry, I dont rob, nor scam. Im a decent guy.

Social Life: Hmm. I play football, cruise with my boyz and go
Cinemas and stuff. Dont go clubbing nor Blaze or any of that extreme stuff. That stuffs just haraam man. And besides, my parents will kill me. I do chill out with my girl a lot though, and am often on the fone for hours with her.

Opinion on Self: Im just living a simple life. No extremes. I havent gone all the way in anything, whether its fun, girls, Islam, career, gangs etc. To be honest though, Im not really happy with my social life, theres just too many things holding me back.

Afterlife: Well, Im not doing anything extreme. But then again I know its not enough for Paradise. Actually, thats what bothers me. My life is neither here nor there. Im not heading for Heaven, which means Hell but nor am I getting the most of this life! Man Im a loser in both lives. Actually, I need to choose what I
want.

Practicing Muslim

Belief & Practice: Definitely Muslim! Not by lip service but action. I believe lifes about obeying Allah and aiming for Paradise. Im trying to do everything bro, from learning, Dawa, praying, to working peacefully to establish Islam.

Education: Islams boosted me to get the best of both lives. So I went back into studies, completed my masters and now have a Fat job! Alhamdulillah!

Income: It comes through my Halaal 60k engineers job bro. Im looking to invest in businesses. I want the best Halal luxuries of this life. You know, big house fat car. Its all about making the most of this life, the Halal way.

Social Life: Well, various sports from football to swimming,
cruising with the bros, meals and stuff. Cant wait for Water Jet skiing though, it sounds heavy. I also like my Quran and the Islamic nsheed tunes that remind me about Allah. They're deep man. Cant wait for Tupacs Ex-Bredrin Napoleans (now Muslim) nasheed.

Opinion on Self: Every man out there is following something or someone. I aint no slave to any of that. Only a humble slave to Allah, and proud to be!

Afterlife: Well I cant wait for my place with the prophets and the Sahabah. Doing everything I can to please Allah. So Im looking forward to his mercy and Jannah. He does promise Jannah for the righteous, those who please themselves ONLY by pleasing Allah, and inshallah I really pray Im amongst them, cozz you only get one shot at it!!

Salaam

A bit raw and out of character for the MS forum, but hey, some of our members like to rough it up a bit... it's all good.

Anyhow, it is actually really sad to learn of the countless youth who fall into the first and second categories. Just yesterday, I was listening to a podcast about alcoholism amongst muslim youth. I would give the link, but if the woman's voice is awrah, I'd be breaking MS rules.

And then, with the youth in such a dire situation as it is, you have dubious chaps like 'Dr. Irfan al-Alawi' labelling the TJ movement as a terrorist organisation.

Na'oodhubillah ! We can sit here and bemoan the state of the ummah, but how sincerely to we raise our hands to Allah, and how much effort do *WE* make ?

Is not the complacency of the 'Practicing Muslim' as described above also to blame for the deterioration of our society ?

If being a practicing muslim just means taking care of your own business within the limits of the shariah, then it's no surprise that we have so many 'Gangster Life' and 'On the fence' muslims amongst us.

To Allah alone can we complain against ourselves, and beg His strength to overcome our nafs and strive for the benefit of the ummah with selfless endeavour ! Aameen !

just for information womens voice is NOT awrah (only in some situations) - alot of our lot think this way.

think "dawa" and "working peacefully to establish islam" is NOT just taking care of your own business - its taking care of other peoples welfare (iman/amaal) also.

Perhaps I was overwhelmed by the indulgent implications of these lines, and so overlooked the first statement as you quoted. Yes, we all know that there is nothing actually wrong with enjoying the halaal pleasures of this world, but is it not also an accurate observation that the Noble Prophet (SAW) and his closest companions did not indulge themselves in this way. If I remember correctly, the houses of even the wealthy amongst them were in no way distinguishable from the houses of the common folk.

As the Prophet (SAW) said: "Whoever loves his aakhirah, he will most assuredly harm his life of the world, and whoever loves the life of the world, he will most assuredly harm his life of the hereafter. Give preference to that which is ever-lasting over that which is about to perish"

Please forgive me if I have made any error in my comment... I proceed in this discussion in the most good-natured manner (in shaa Allah), and am optimistic that the tone will be reciprocated.

We are all imperfect and sinful, but we must uphold perfection in order to strive towards it, in shaa Allah.

I trust your information regarding the awrah, and so offer the link to the podcast here.

Fee amaanillah

Wassalaam
