Think not of those who are slain in Allah's Way as dead. Nay, they are alive The Transfer of Hazrat Hamzah's (r.a.) Grave This incident dates back to 1968 while I was working as a physician inBuraydah, Saudi Arabia. I came to Madinah on a Friday for Ziyaarah(visiting the blessed tomb of our Holy Prophet and during mystay I resided with a friend of mine who was also a Doctor. The doctorbecame ill and there were many patients to be seen, so he requested ofme to see to them. I therefore examined the patients and dischargedthem. One day an old Bedouin took me with him to see a patient near MountUhud, who lived in a tent which was in close proximity to the cemeterywhere the Martyrs of Uhud were buried. Having examined him I wrote hima prescription. Thereafter, the Bedouin took me to the blessed grave ofHazrat Hamzah (r.a.) and informed me that fifty years ago HazratHamzah's (r.a.) grave had been situated beneath the valley. However,one day, due to torrential rainfall, his grave was flooded with water.The chieftain of Makkah, who in those days was the ruler of Hijaaz, sawHazrat Hamzah (r.a.) in his dream, and informed him to makearrangements to stop the rainwater from entering his grave, as it wascausing him severe distress. The chieftain of Makkah informed thescholars and together they decided that his grave be raised to a higherlevel. When the grave was finally unearthed it was discovered that thewater had, in fact, seeped into the grave. The old Bedouin informed him that he was also amongst the peoplewho had participated in unearthing the grave. He told me that whilethey were digging, a casual blow from a pickax accidentally hit HazratHamzah's (r.a.) ankle and people were shocked to see that fresh bloodbegan to gush from the wound. A bandage was bound around it to stop thebleeding. When Hazrat Hamzah's (r.a.) body was finally exposed, we sawthat the kafn burial shroud only covered the lower portion of his body.Fresh blood was gushing from his wounds, one of his eyes had beendislocated from the eye-socket, his ears had been severed and hisstomach had also been slit. All the people who were present saw HazratHamzah (r.a.). Hazrat Hamzah (r.a.) was transferred from the old grave to a higherlevel in the same condition. The reason why the Bedouin related thisstory was so that we could strengthen our belief in the existence oflife after death. If there were no life after death then Hazrat Hamzah(r.a.) who had achieved martyrdom fourteen hundred years ago, would nothave remained so secure in the Earth.
