Assalamu Alaykum,

I just heard the most amazing thing andhad to post this here. A brother I know spoke to someone recently whoresembled Usamah Bin Laden, but a whiter version (probably Christianonce). He had tattoos over his arm and porbably much more. He had aproper Sunnah beard and Zulfah (long hair). He said to him (probably asa joke), "Bruv, did anyone tell you that you look like Bin Laden?" Theman answered with a smile, "Yea I have been told that. I'm a Mosqueteacher."

He reverted to Islam some years before. Suprisedwith the answer, the brother said to the man, "So you're a Muslim,Subhaanallah. Brother how comes you don't remove the tattoos?"

The man replied, "Why would I remove the tattoos which would be so costly when I can spend that money in the path of Allah!"

He felt sincerety in that reply and I have to admit that if I was tosee tattoos like that, it would never cross my mind that the reason hestill has them is for a pure cause like that. May Allah reward hisintentions and naturally remove those Tattoos through His infinitepowers. Ameen

a good lesson, i think something we are all guilty of, we instantly bring negative thoughts on other people without knowing anything about them, isn't it sad that we need to investigate our negative thoughts rather than ignore them and think good of everyone regardless of what our thoughts tell us.

I agree with all the above, but what i dont understand is - if he has tattoos, his ghusl is incomplete and therefore the fardh acts nullifies; so the fact that he could spend his money on better things is a point but theres no obedience in the disobedience towards Allah, as the hadith states, to the nearest effect. Im really confused, yes we should not judge but should we also not explain to this brother the right and the wrong on the basis that spending money wisely is a contributory fact and does not hold sufficient grounds towards fardh acts.

May allah forgive me for any mistakes and may allah open my mind and show me the true light insh-allah.

I apologise if i have offended anyone - it is not my intention - rather my intention is to be educated.

As-salaamu'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

I searched for a fatwa on that precise question, but was unable to find one on the trusted sites such as muftisays, askimam, sunnipath and daruliftaa.

However, ...

Tattoos involve the injection of ink into the dermis which is BELOW the outer layer of skin (epidermis)*.
And the requisites of ghusl and wudhu are that pure water reaches the skin (epidermis?) of the parts which need to be washed**.

And Allah knows best.

J'allah for informing me and many others ia. As i like many others was informed from a trusted source that the reason of tattoos being haram was that of ghusl, amongst other aspects.

I did a bit of research myself, and ulhumd i found the real reason as to why tattoos are haram

And therefore may allah forgive me for the above misconception and may allah reward the brother for his intentions and of course the many brothers and sisters who help educate each other through this benifcial site inshallah.
