Bismillah Wal Hamdulillah.

"Learn to be more grateful. Focus on what you have, your blessings, the people you love, the opportunities you’ve been given etc. The Almighty loves those who are grateful. He rewards them in unimaginable ways. You could be one of them. Make gratitude a way of life. Embody it! "

Bismillah wal Hamdulillah.

We need to develop the habit of making shukr no matter how dire our situation.

This valuable lesson was taught to me by a Taxi Driver a number of years ago. I had a back injury mobility was seriously affected. I had a Doctors appointment and had called a Taxi.

The Taxi Driver a Somalian brother with a great big smile on his face. After exchanging Salaams, as I got into the car asked me how I was. And before I could respond. He raised his finger and said ; " Brother whatever answer you give make sure it is Alhamdulillah", And for the rest of the journey he reminded me that no matter how difficult the circumstances our blessings still out number our difficulties. And if we were to try and enumerate the blessings we were receiving in times of sickness and difficulties we would not be able to do it.

Bismillah.

And what about being diagnosed with an illness. Can that be a blessing? never thought about that until I came across an article

An individual was suddenly afflicted with an illness, his entire life was affected; and even basics tasks including simply eating became a challenge. Was in a constant state of pain, physically became weak very weak.

He got shunted from one Specialist to another, Doctor after Doctor was referred from one specialist in a hospital to another . Because the Doctors could not find a Diagnosis. They tried to explain away his symptoms by saying it was all in his head. Put him on anti-depressants and anti-psychotic drugs. The Psychiatrists were not a hundred percent convinced it was a mental illness and the physical health specialists were not convinced it was a physical illness.

Finally after years and years he attended an appointment with a specialist. The regular specialist was on holiday and the Doctor who was covering for him, just happened to know of a someone in a different hospital who had a passion for studying about rare illnesses. Finally it was this Doctor who specialised in rare illnesses that diagnosed him with his condition. This after years of not being sure if it was all in his head or maybe he was mentally ill. And with some well meaning people constantly telling him to pull himself together and to get on with it. Or others perhaps suspecting he had just fabricated everything and was seeking attention. All of this whilst being physically weak and in constant pain.

The point is that no matter whatever situation we are in, there is a blessing attached to it. Even being diagnosed with an illness is better then suffering for years with no diagnosis.

Bismillah.

Story of A Grateful Sudanese Man.

Narrated in a talk by Sh. Ali Hammuda.

'This is a story of a contemporary Sudanese man. Maybe some of you have seen the video that went viral. He was sat in an ugly hot Factory in the Middle East.

He was asked; "How are you", how are you doing", He responded in a simple Sudanese villager approach, with simple words yet profound in their meaning.  He said; "I am sat in the middle of ALLAHs favours that are crowding and competing to get to me. He said; "I dont know where to start thanking ALLAH, I can feel the blessings that are crowding and rushing to get to me,"

My Brothers that is the good life ( being immersed in a state of shukr) have you experienced it?'

Bismillah wal Hamdulillah.

Appreciate Life And Be Thankful.

If you have a bad day at work, be thankful. Appreciate that you have a job. Some people don't.
When you pay your bills, be thankful. You can pay them.
If you see a gray hair, be thankful. Think of the cancer patient in chemotherapy who only wishes for any hair.
When you find yourself waiting in line or the recipient of poor service, be thankful. Think about the people who have no food to eat at all.
When you realize how much work it is to take care of a house, be thankful you have a house. Think about those who only wish they had a house to take care of.
When you feel like complaining because you have to walk a long distance from your car, be thankful. Think of what it would be like not to be able to walk!If you get irritated by other people's anger, apathy, ignorance, bitterness, or insecurities, be thankful. Things could be worse. You could be one of them!
When you think everything in your world is terrible, and you want to give up, think of the people who have been told they only have a certain amount of time to live. They don't want to give up.
Live life with gratitude. Appreciate life.

Gratitude/ Shukr in the Quran saved my life

I bought a gratitude journal off Amazon six months ago because everyone in my office was doing it. But once I got past the 'Oh this looks so cooooool' phase, I put it down and procrastinated on it for months.

Fast forward 5 months and we're in the middle of a global pandemic killing people left and right, affecting the lives of billions. I got laid off what I thought was my dream job (after 2 weeks of joining smh), and I was devastated. I fell into depression for weeks, wouldn't talk
or even eat properly for days.

It was then, when I lost what I had been chasing restlessly for years, that I really started taking Shukr seriously. And I believe it's the best decision I've made in years.

I’ve noticed that I appreciate little things in life more than I’ve ever been. I was awe struck by how I now think differently than I normally did. Last week I decided to phone my family back home, who I hadn't had a decent conversation in over 2 years. I told them how grateful I was for all that they did for me.

I can tell you that I’m glad I’ve been keeping up with the gratitude journal. It has done wonders to me
