Maybe so but looking at the Urdu script you posted, your translation was incorrect.

The word Ghareeb to an average urdu speaker means someone who is poor or devoid of wealth.

In the African language of Swahili Ghareeb is used for the Evening.

In Arabic it has broader meanings depending on context.

From the script you posted the words used in conjugation are Ghareeb and Ajeeb.

Roughly translated that Urdu script you posted says that one possible explanation to the hadith " Islam began as something strange and amazing and will advance and progress in a strange and amazing way".

In conclusion what the author in the original post stated is was very relevant to those of us living in the Western countries when it was written. And is even more so 22 plus years after it was written.

Many basic teachings of Islam and every day Sunnahs are viewed as strange that is just by many Muslims.

Bismillah.

Which brings us back to the original text of the article in this thread
' Proud To Be A Stranger'

And indeed ALLAH is the reviver and the restorer.

Let me tell you something over 20 years ago, I went to the Masjid and on that day there was a free Magazine with articles being handed out. I picked up a copy within it was an article titled " Proud To Be A Stranger", something about that article resonated with me. Years went by and in the year 2016, I was browsing the Soundvision website and I came across that exact same article again it resonated with me. So I copied and pasted it the article on Mufti Says Forum.

Considering nothing happens by coincidence and except by the will of ALLAH. What made this article resonate with me? What caused me to rediscover this article a generation after it was initially written? What made me copy and paste this article on Mufti Says Forum and periodically bump up this thread every so often?

I highly doubt that the writer of that article could have ever imagined when they first wrote it, that in the year 2024 this article would still be read or discussed on a forum.

Maybe its because ALLAH wanted us to read and reflect on this article, and give us glad tidings that no matter how strange things seem, and how difficult it is to hang on to your deen, be "Proud To Be A Stranger" And Just like the youth mentioned in the Surah Al Kahf, if you put your trust in ALLAH and remain steadfast ALLAH will restore the deen to its former glory.

And ALLAH knows best.

Loading Qur'aan Verse

...just as I'sa, son of Maryam, said to the Disciples,
"Who are my supporters towards Allah?" ... [61:141]

The word hawariyyin is the plural of hawariyy which connotes a sincere friend who is free from any kind of adulteration' [Ruhul Ma'ani referring to Azhari]. This is the reason why people who believed in Prophet Jesus were called hawariyy. They were twelve in number, as is discussed in Surah 'Al-'Imran. This verse refers to an incident of Prophet 'Isa AS and urges the Muslims to gird up their loins to unselfishly help and support the religion of Allah, as when Prophet Isa was hurt by the enemies, he asked his disciples ''Who are my supporters towards Allah?" ... In other words, 'who will help and support me in propagating the religion of Allah?' Twelve people volunteered and pledged to his loyalty and helped him in preaching the religion. Following this example, the Muslims ought to help and support Allah's religion. The blessed Companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad followed this example to the fullest extent, and acted upon this command to the highest degree, so much so that the example of the Holy Prophets' Companions stands unparalleled in the history of other ummahs. They helped the Holy Prophet SAS and, in the process, incurred the wrath and enmity of Arab and non-Arab communities for the sake of Allah's religion. They bore their tortures and persecution. They dedicated their lives, wealth and children to the cause. Eventually, Allah granted them help and victory. He granted them triumph and mastery of the world, and the territories of the enemies fell into their hands.

Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) said:

The people of Islām are strangers amongst mankind.
—And the believers are strangers amongst the people of Islām.
—And the people of knowledge are strangers amongst the believers.
—And the people of the Sunnah who separate it from the desires and innovations are strangers.
—And those who call to it and have patience upon the harm of the opposers, they are the severest of them (all) in strangeness.

However, they are the people of Allāh in truth. There is no strangeness for them (in reality), (rather) their strangeness is only in relation to the majority about whom Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, said:

وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ
If you were to obey most of those upon the Earth they would misguide you from the path of Allāh.[1]

So the ones (mentioned in the verse) are (the real) strangers to Allāh and His Messenger and their strangeness is the deserting (type of) strangeness even if they are well-known and pointed towards.
