A man with his child came to see Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (RA). Upon seeing the Shaykh the child began to cry. The man said why is it that children always cry seeing molvis? (in reference to his beard) Moulana sahib replied "Children always fear their fathers but never their mothers".
