There are three things that save and three that ruin. For the three that save, they are:

  To fear God secretly and in public,
  
  
• 
  
  To be moderate in affluence and in poverty, and,
  
  
• 
  
  To speak with justice whether pleased or angry.

As for the three that bring ruin, they are:

• 
  
  Greed that one obeys,
  
  
• 
  
  Passion that one follows, and
  
  
• 
  
  The admiration of a person for himself [and not for the sake of Allah].

Strive as much for the pleasure of Allah as you need it.

Sin as much as you have the strength to endure its punishment.
