"One should have such love for the Sunnah that he wishes to emulate all of them, even those actions which may not be within his capacity to enact.
For example, to remain hungry for days on end is a sunnah, but not everybody has the capacity to perform this. However, despite not being able to observe such actions, a person should still have love and admiration for them.
Shaykh-al-Ḥadīth, Mawlānā Muḥammad Zakariyyā rahmatullahi alayh explains this with a beautiful example. He says,
'The likeness of such people is like that of a diabetic. The diabetic will still have lots of love for sweet things, but because of his condition he will not be able to fulfil his desire.
Similarly, one should have love for every action of Sunnah even though his current capacity may not allow him to observe them.'"

The Noble Sahabah رضي الله عنهم would cling fast to the Sunnah, on account of it being Sunnah, while we discard the Sunnah, on account of it being just Sunnah!
A very important sunnah which is neglected today by most, is the adoption of an Islaamic appearance. In particular, the first thing majority of muslims do when they rise in the morning is to grab a razor blade and 'Bismillah, Allaahu Akbar,' off comes the beard. Such an emphasised Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (sallalaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), and it is being chucked down the drain. One should note, that the Scholars have in fact given the ruling that to keep a beard is Waajib (some even say Fard!), and to shave it is Haraam, and on this is Ijmaa' (consensus)! This verdict was reached on the grounds that there are numerous ahaadith where the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihe wasallam is explicitly commanding the Muslims to grow a beard. To quote the Ghair Muqallideen, 'Don't you follow hadees brother?!'
