Rasulullaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, 'The person who revives my Sunnah at a time of strife and corruption will receive the reward of a hundred martyrs.' (Mishkaatul Masaabeeh, page 30).

Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf Thaani (رحمة اللہ علیه) writes, "Please understand the value of the Sunan and strive to revive them!'

Imaam Maalik (رحمة اللہ علیه) likened the Sunnah to the ark of Hadhrat Nooh (عليه السلام) in that those who board are saved and those who do not are drowned (led astray). (Fataawa Rahimiyyah, Volume 1, page 304)

"Corruption" here refers to when an atmosphere of innovation, ignorance, or transgression becomes prevalent. Because this person's struggle and burden is in reviving the Sunna of Allaah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, he has been likened to a martyr whose struggle lies on reviving the faith itself. (Mirqat al-Mafatih, 1:422)
