"The sign of a person having acquired the love for Allāh ta'ala is that he is perpetually grateful to Allāh ta'ala for every single bounty and patient during times of adversity.
He believes with his mind and soul and declares with his tongue that all the good that he has is nothing but bounty conferred by Allāh ta'ala without him deserving them.
On the contrary, if he is inflicted by any adversity, he accepts that this is due to his shortcomings, hence a mercy from Allāh ta'ala, for he understands that his patience during this adversity will be a means of his sins being pardoned."
