In Islam, it is manifest ignorance and a grave sin to love or hate someone based on their race, color, tribe, nationality, or language. (Islam has forbidden anything that gnaws away at the roots of Islamic unity, such as racism, tribalism, nationalism, or linguistic prejudice).
Good behaviour and noble akhlaaq towards all creation including disbelievers in not incompatible with hating the evil people get up to including Kufr. For example, if you have a Christian wife or a Hindu mother you are still meant to hate her Kufr. But you are permitted to love her as a human being and someone for whom you desire to be saved from eternal Hellfire. Even if your Hindu mother starts insulting you and your religion, sending her to eternal doom is the last resort you take until you have no choice but to send her where she rightfully deserves to go.
There's a time and place for everything. So what is appropriate behaviour on the battlefield will be very different to what is appropriate behaviour in the market when trading for example.
Also what is appropriate in an Islamic state when one has power over the disbelievers is different to what is appropriate in a position of weakness.
For example, in an Islamic state the disbelievers are required to live in a state of humiliation as second class citizens. For example, he is meant to walk on the edges of the road and give way to the Muslims. He is not allowed many other privileges which are given to the Muslims. That is whole topic in itself. There is great wisdom behind these beautiful laws of Islam.
But it is not feasible nor appropriate to apply such Islamic injunctions in a position of weakness when the disbelievers are in power. Rather, to do so would bring much more trouble.
In such a condition, when we can find no immediate asbaab to pursue without making our situation even worse, then only Allah can grant us the asbaab to turn the tables. But He will only grant the asbaab if a significant proportion of us become pious believers.
Perfection is not expected. But we must at least strive our best to perfect our Imaan, Amal, behaviour etc. do Sabr, become believers who deserve the help of Allah and search and wait patiently for the right asbaab (means) to arrive from Allah. And then when the Help of Allah arrives, nothing will and nothing can stop us from turning the tables on the disbelievers and put them in their rightful place in society - under our feet (metaphorically) or underground (literally).
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
