Allah, the Most High, says:"The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His Praise. But you understand not their glorification. Truly, He is Ever Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving."(17:44)
A verse of Surah Noor reads:"Do you not see that Allah is exalted by whomever is within the heavens and the earth and [by] the birds with wings spread [in flight]? Each [of them] has known his [means of] prayer and exalting [Him], and Allah is Knowing of what they do."(24:41)
Imam Bukhari رضي الله عنه reports a hadeeth wherein Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, "Mount Uhud is a mountain that loves us and we love it." [Vol. 2, p585]
Hadhrat Jaabir Ibn Samura (R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, "Verily, I recognise a rock in Makkah that used to greet me when I was made a Nabi." [Muslim, Vol. 2, p245]
Hadhrat Ali (R.A.) reports that when he accompanied Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) to a place in Makkah, every tree and rock that they passed exclaimed, "Peace be on you, Oh Messenger of Allah!"' [Tirmidhi]
Hadhrat Abu Dharr (R.A.) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) once held about seven to nine pebbles in his hand. He says that all these pebbles were glorifying Allaah, and that he actually heard them glorifying Allaah with sounds that resembled the buzzing of bees. [Jam'ul Fawaa'id]
Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Mas'ood (R.A.) was once asked, 'Who informed Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) that the Jinn were listening to his recitation of the Qur'aan? He replied, "A tree that was nearby." [Bukhari and Muslim]
The incident of the the weeping pillar is famous. It was a brance of a date palm tree next to which Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) used to stand and deliver the sermons. When he began to stand on the pulpit it began to weep bitterly. The Nabi (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) had to descend from the pulpit to console it, like a person pacifies a weeping child. Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said that it cried because it missed the dhikr that it used to listen to. [Bukhari, Vol. 1, p506]
When a Jewish woman invited Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) and some of the Sahabah (R.A.) for a meal while they were in Kaibar, Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) suddenly instructed all those eating to stop. He then sent for the woman and told her that she had poisoned the meat. Astonished, she asked who had informed him. The Nabi (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) replied that the forelimb of the goat, which was in his hand, had informed him. She then admitted that she had poisoned it. [Abu Dawood]
"Hisn Haseen" reports from Tabraani that Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, "A mountain calls to another mountain asking whether any person engaged in Allaah's dhikr has passed on it that day. When the other replies in the affirmative, the first mountain becomes happy."
All these narrations and Qur'aanic verses prove that the things that we consider to be lifeless do have some life in them. It is because of a deficiency in ourselves that we cannot detect the life and perception that they possess. Allaah can also grant them the power to talk if He willed.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The Hour will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them. The Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will say: 'O Muslim, O slave of Allaah! There is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!' (All the trees will say this except for the gharqad (box-thorn), for it is one of the trees of the Jews.'" [Reported by Imaam Ahmad; it is a saheeh hadeeth]
Allah Almighty states the following in the Quran: "The seven heavens and the earth, and all beings therein, declare His glory: there not a thing but celebrates His praise; and yet ye understand not how they declare His glory...". (al-Isra, 44)
