Forget The Sin

This is also a ploy of shayt ā n that despite being granted the tawfeeq to do tawbah, one continues to remember the sin and remains despondent. Through the barakah of tawbah, Allāh ta'ālā purifies the sinner. Our beloved Prophet sallallāhu 'alayhi wasallam says:

The one who has repented is like the one who has no sin. (Ibn Mājah)

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Every son of Adam makes mistakes, and the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent."

[Reported by Imam Ahmad in al-Musnad (3:198); at-Tirmidhi (2499); ad-Daarimi (2628); Ibn Majah (4251), and al-Hakim (4:244), from Sayyiduna Anas Ibn Malik رضي الله عنه]

This hadeeth refers to one who repents sencerely. The similarity between the two people is in terms of accountability. Just as the person who did not commit any sins does not have to give account, the one who has repented will no longer have to give account for the sins he repented from.

As for who is the better of the two, there is a difference of opinion amongst the scholars. The superior view, according to Mulla 'Ali al-Qari رحمه الله, is in favour of the one who did not sin at all, since his state is closer to that of the Prophets and Angels (upon them be peace). And Allaah knows best.

The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

"Glad tidings are for him who finds abundant invocations for forgiveness recorded in his book." (Ibn Maja)

This hadith refers to the sincere invocations made by a believer for forgiveness that are accepted by Allaah سبحانه و تعالى. They will be presented to the believer on the Day of Judgement and will be a source of blessing and happiness for him. (Mirqat al-Mafatih, 5:189)

Don't Delay Repentance

Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani said:

"My respected father used to say, that to commit sins hoping to repent later is like having a scorpion sting you in the hope of using a cure later.

How can a person know that he will be given respite and the ability to repent later. Both ability and opportunity are given by Allaah alone. If anyone is daring then Allaah might withdraw his ability to repent later. May Allaah protect us. Aameen!" (Discourses on Islamic Way of Life)

Just One More Sin

Just one more sin then repentance
By Maulana Hakeem Akhtar [db]
[English subtitles | Non Music nasheed used]

"There is no concept of 'one last sin' because you are just adding fuel to the fire. End it now" Shaykh gives some wonderful advice about how it is simply illogical to have this approach to 'commit one last sin', or to commit one sin to wipe another away. This is a gem which simply had to be translated and brought to yours and my attention.

His company impresses upon those around him to converge their mental as well as physical 'being' into living a life to the Creator's criterion. His discourses know no language, color or age barriers and even those alien of Urdu benefit.

Shaikh Dhiyauddin Abdul Qahir Soharwardi (Allah have mercy on him) said,

'Heedlessness (ghaflah) in repenting from a sinful act is far worse then your commission of those acts of disobedience in the first place.'

From Anas, (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, (peace and blessings be upon him) say:

"Allah the Almighty has said: 'O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me, and hope in Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind.

O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds in the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I shall forgive you.

O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with an earthful of sins and were you then to face Me, without having associated anything with Me, I shall grant you an earthful of pardon.'"

[Recorded by Al-Tirmidhi, who said that it is a good and sound hadith]
