HOW TO CELEBRATE THE NEW YEAR
from the teachings of Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat Sahib
by Abu Abdullah Ibne Ismail
"How should a Muslim celebrate his new year? The first thought that should enter a Muslim's mind is that my life is 1 year shorter. You never see a trader celebrating the end of the financial year. Rather you see the trader auditing his accounts from the year just lapsed.
Allah ta'ala has also sent us in this world as a trader. Wealth and life are our goods. These goods need to be traded and spent for the profit of the hereafter i.e. in order to purchase paradise.
We should view our last year that has passed as a precious gift from Allah. If goods deeds have been performed than we should thank Allah and plan to continue these.
If sinful deeds have been performed then forgiveness should be sought and a firm intention made to refrain from these sins."
