We will test you

posted by ummi taalib on 27th September 2009 - 0 comments
[i]“We will test you” Allah ta’aalaa sends tests in the form of grief, anxiety, loss of wealth and loved ones etc. to see if we stand by the declaration of love and of being a slave (which we make when we declare the Shahaadah verbally) and whether or not we remain steadfast on His obedience. “Most definitely We will test you (to see whether you exercise sabr) with a (little) bit of fear, with hunger and with a shortage in wealth, life (the test is by way of illness, death, difficulties) and fruit (produce and products)." Suratul Baqarah 155 For one who stands firm by saying “Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji’oon”, and thereafter adopts Taqwa and refrains from His disobedience, His promise stands as follows,

EXPLANATION OF HIKMAH

posted by ummi taalib on 12th August 2009 - 0 comments
Allah Ta’ala says that whosoever He grants Hikmat, He has granted them abundant “khayr” or goodness. The word “Hikmah” is translated into English as “wisdom”. However Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat explains that it is like many Arabic terms which cannot be expressed correctly in English with just one word. The following is an attempt to transcribe Shaykh’s explanation. To have knowledge of Deen, and to have correct understanding of it are two separate things. Also it is one thing to know the different parts of Deen and another to know the whole Deen to the extent that the full jigsaw puzzle of the Deen falls into place. A Faqeeh will know the whole Deen and will look with insight at everything just as a lawyer who has been practicing law for 50 years will know all the ins and outs of which law to apply when. When one knows the Deen i.e. the Haqq (truth), and also has correct understanding of it, and thereafter acts upon it, then it is said that one has been blessed with Hikmat. One with hikmat will balance out a situation and act correctly without being overtaken by sentiments and emotions. The question he will ask himself is “what does my Allah want of me at this time?” Looking at the examples set by our beloved Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam and his Companions, we see that they did not let emotions rule them. At the time of a battle, a Companion wished to join the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam, but because the Companion had elderly parents with no one to look after them he was refused and he accepted it. Then there was the case of the Companions who were caught by the enemy but released on the promise that they would not fight against them in a battle. At the time of the Battle of Badr when every man was needed, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam would not let them fight against the enemy due to the promise they had given.

THE DUAA OF THE ANGELS

posted by ummi taalib on 5th July 2009 - 0 comments
“The angels carrying the Throne, as well as those around them, glorify the praises of their Rabb, believe in Him, and seek forgiveness for those who have Imaan. (They make du’aa saying) ‘O our Rabb! Your mercy and knowledge encompass everything. So forgive those who repent and who follow Your path. And save them from the punishment of the Blaze’.” Surah Mu’min: 7 Commenting on the above verse, Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat explains that the Du’aa which thousands of Angels make are for all the Believers, both the pious and the sinful. Allah Ta’aalaa does not mention in the Qur’an the actual words of praise which the angels use but He mentions in detail the words of the du’aa they make.

Dr 'Abdul Hayy 'Aarifi

posted by ummi taalib on 21st June 2009 - 0 comments
SHAYKH DR MUHAMMAD ‘ABDUL HAYY ‘AARIFI ra Khalifah of Hakeemul Ummat, Shaykh Ashraf ‘Ali Thanwi ra Dr ‘Abdul Hayy ‘Aarifi was a homeopathic doctor who helped people with physical ailments, however according to Mufti Taqi Uthmaani Sahib (Khalifah of Dr ‘Abdul Hayy ‘Aarifi), “In reality the spiritual ailments that plague hearts and souls were cured in that surgery of his”! The following are some examples of his beautiful character and wisdom. His wife of 60 years says that in all their time together, her husband did not once command her to do something for him and she used to happily serve him of her own free will. Generally, husbands consider it their right and have their wives perform various tasks for them. Not so this amazing friend of Allah who did not even ask her for a glass of water! They had spent approximately 60 years together and let alone an expression of anger, he did not even change his tone while addressing his wife! Is that not the example of one who adhered to the Hadith of our beloved Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam,

Nothing Happens without the will of Allah Almighty

posted by ummi taalib on 19th June 2009 - 0 comments
Throughout the awe inspiring story of the Sahaabah’s Radhiyallaahu ‘anhum advance into as-Shaam in Imam al-Waaqidee’s “Conquest of Syria”, their absolute and total reliance on Allah Almighty was something in which there is a great lesson. Throughout the book one could almost hear their shouts of “Laa hawla walaa quwwata illaabillaahil ‘aliyyil ‘atheem” at every step, whether it was the joy of victory, the fear of being outnumbered or the cry of grief at the loss of a beloved friend or family member. When translated into English the above thikr is usually read, “There is no power and no might except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great”. The translator of the book has however given it its full meaning and I hope readers will find it beneficial to recite the thikr with the full meaning in mind. As said by our pious elders (the English translation of which I’m not going to attempt), “meri talab bhi kisi ke karam kaa sadaqah hein,

TWO IMPORTANT ADVICES

posted by ummi taalib on 8th June 2009 - 0 comments
First Advice: If you wish to become the beloved of Allah then abstain from the world and do not let it enter your heart. Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat explains that the dunya / world which is condemned in the Qur’an and Hadith is not the dunya which is a necessity to life and living i.e. a house for shelter, a car for transport and even savings for a rainy day. In fact a man may be lord over a whole sultanate. Wealth earned and spent in a halal way and which does not enter the heart is permissible. For example, a person has earned a large amount of money, however unwittingly, he has earned it in a haram way. When told by a Mufti that this money is impermissible for him, he will not use it and he is a “zaahid fid dunya”, i.e. he has abstained from the world. On the other hand a poor person amasses only 5 pounds but in a haram way and keeps it, is a person of the world. Therefore as long as the dunya remains in the pocket or in a bank account or safe and does not enter the heart of a person, then he is a zaahid fid dunya. If the dunya does become beloved, then let the love of Allah exceed it, i.e. love for the dunya is 48% and love for Allah is 52%. As one strives to attain zuhd, his love for the dunya will decrease and his love for Allah will increase and he will become beloved to Allah.

The Good & The Bad

posted by ummi taalib on 2nd June 2009 - 0 comments
THE GOOD & THE BAD Our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam has described who amongst us are of the “khayr”, i.e. the good, and who amongst us are of the “shar” i.e. the bad. In one of his inspiring lectures Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat explains that belief in the Aqaaid as taught by our Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam, makes a person a Believer and from the Believers, some are of the “khayr” and some are of the “shar”. Those Believers who are described as “good” are those from whom khayr / good is expected and from whom people feel safe in every way, while the “bad / evil” are those from whom there is no hope of any good and there is fear of his evil. Explaining further Shaykh says that no mention is made of abundant worship i.e. salaat, hajj, ‘umrah, thikr etc. Simply because a person performs abundant worship, it does not automatically mean people can expect good from him and are safe from his evil. This will only apply if the person is practicing the complete Deen which includes dealings, fulfilling rights and adopting beautiful characteristics, in other words, a person who is a “Kaamil Mu’min-Perfect Believer”. On being asked about such a person people will immediately vouch for his honesty and good character while on being asked about a person of “shar” people will give warnings of his untrustworthiness and evil traits.

A BEAUTIFUL EXPLANATION

posted by ummi taalib on 26th May 2009 - 1 comment
A BEAUTIFUL EXPLANATION “O Mankind! Fear your Rabb (who created you from non-existence into existence and sustains you) who created you from a single soul (from Adam AS), created its spouse (Hawwa) from it, and spread great numbers of men and women from the two (from Adam and Hawwa). Fear that Allah in Whom (in whose name) you ask (things and take promises) from each other and (fear breaking) family ties. (live amicably) Verily Allah is Watchful over you (He watches your actions and your behaviour towards others). Suratun Nisaa: verse 1 This verse, recited during the khutbah of a nikah is very beautifully explained by Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat, may Allah increase him in knowledge and grant him a long and a happy life, aameen. I feel that listening to Hadrat Shaykh’s explanations of the Holy Qur’an brings forth the beauty of its meaning which normally escapes us. Regarding the above verse Shaykh explains that Allah is saying to us that ‘fulfil My huqooq (rights) as well as the huqooq of My creation’. Therefore firstly we should not disobey our Rabb in anyway whatsoever and follow each and every of His commandments. Secondly, every human being around us, be it our brother or sister, parents or in-laws, white, black, Arab or Ajam, ugly or beautiful, intelligent or not so intelligent, the origin of each and every one is the same, i.e. Adam AS and Hawwa. Since we are of one and the same family we should all fulfil each other’s huqooq. Shaykh says that this is a very comprehensive verse. If the rights of the creation are fulfilled but there is no salaat or sawm, then we will be accountable and in the same way if all worship is in place but everyone’s rights are not fulfilled then again we will be accountable. He ends by saying that every effort should be made to please our Rabb and we should practice “silaa rahmi”, i.e. care about and have love for all our relations whether from our mother’s side or father’s side and married couples should regard their in-laws as there own families.

Be with the Truthful

posted by ummi taalib on 25th May 2009 - 0 comments

Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat explains that Imaan is our greatest wealth and Shaytaan and nafs are our greatest enemy who are able to snatch it away from us. The means of safeguarding this great wealth of Imaan is adopting Taqwa, i.e. to abstain from sins and to fear the displeasure of Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala)

To be able to adopt Taqwa we should stay with the “Saadiqeen” (the Truthful). Spending time with the Truthful will lead to the realisation that we have the ability to abstain from disobedience because a great deception of Shaytaan is to make us concentrate on our good deeds. We concentrate on our worship, spending our time and wealth in the path of Allah, our optional hajj and umrah etc. not that there is no benefit in our optional worship. There is definitely benefit in this however the benefit is insignificant compared to the detrimental effect of committing sins.

Therefore the key to the security of Imaan is adopting Taqwa and the key to adopting Taqwa is to be with the Saadiqeen (to spend time with and to consult a Shaykh).
