The Safety Net

posted by ummi taalib on 1st December 2011 - 1 comment
From “Removing the Net” – a transcription of some essential advice given in an informal talk by Hazrat Maulana Yunus Patel ra The author says regarding the title “Removing the Net”: It was selected because our beautiful religion and Shariah offers us a safety net with its various injunctions, teachings and prohibitions. Unfortunately, we have breached and disregarded many of those laws. Having, ourselves, removed the teachings of Deen from our lives, we find ourselves in deep waters, or having to face vicious “shark” attacks from all quarters – nafs, shaytaan and various other evil elements prevalent in society. After relating stories about how family units are destroyed due to disregarding the Sahriah laws as in the case of a man who trusts his friend so much that he allows him free access into his home and allows him to become comfortable with his wife and children and when eventually his wife and friend end up in the inevitable situation he says, ““My best friend took my wife away.” Shaykh Mawlana Yunus Patel says,

Reality of the Scales

posted by ummi taalib on 27th November 2011 - 0 comments
The Day of Judgement and the Meezaan (Scales) are inevitable. Question is, are we prepared for it and will the scales tip in our favour?

Imam Muhammad ibn Isma’eel al- Bukhari’s book of Hadeeth begins with a Hadeeth on Ikhlaas (Intentions) and ends with mention of the Scales. He presents us a collection of Ahaadeeth concerning every aspect of our lives from Tahaarat (Purity), Salaah, Hajj, Zakaat, Sawm to aspects which deal with our daily lives.

Shaykh Muhammad Saleem Dhorat (Hafizahullaah) explained in a few words at the completion of Bukhari Shareef today in London that it is actions which will be weighed in the scales and for actions to be weighty, two things are necessary; Ikhlaas (correct intentions) and Ittiba-e-Sunnat (actions to be according to the Sunnah method).

Imam Bukhari (Rahimahullah) has in reality shown us the complete Deen which if acted upon in its entirety with Ikhlaas and according to the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam then the scales are guaranteed to tip in our favour leading to success and this was part of his message to the students today.

The Beloved will surely test the Lovers!

posted by ummi taalib on 30th October 2011 - 0 comments
A student who has not made any effort and who everyone knows will fail the exams is not prevented from sitting the exams as this will give him the perfect excuse to claim injustice. His failure will be proof enough. So it is when we are tested with trials and tribulations. A declaration of faith by a Believer is a proclamation of being an ‘Aashiq (a lover of Allah subhaanahu wata’ala) and it is the dastoor (the way) of this world that the beloved will test the lover. Allah subhaanahu wata’ala knows the state of our hearts so He tests the Believers to differentiate the liars and the truthful ones. Without these tests the liars and the hypocrites will claim injustice on the Day of Judgement when they’re consigned to the Fire. Those who fail these tests will wail and moan and ask “Why me?” On the other hand the true lovers will say “But this is what Allah subhaanahu wata’al and His Rasool sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam promised. We expected to be tested. We are yours O our Lord,” They will accept without question the decree of the Beloved with an increase in their love and strengthening of their faith. They will remain firm despite the trials and tribulations coming their way, like the tender crop swaying in the direction of the blowing winds. If the winds come from one direction they will bend one way and then stand up straight only to be bent in another direction with the blowing winds. A tall standing tree on the other hand will not be affected by the winds. It will remain standing straight, seemingly indestructible until a gale force wind comes along and removes it from its root and it is thrown aside, useless and destroyed.

Why Call Anyone Other Than Allaah!

posted by ummi taalib on 28th August 2011 - 0 comments
There are three names of Allah subhaanahu wata’ala in "Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem and the following explanation was given by a speaker in one of our local Masjids (Shaykh Ridhwaan I believe) which I found truly inspiring and would like to share (though I doubt if I will be able to give it justice). He explained the Barakah in the name "Allaah" with which things are able to come into existence without any means. Then through the Barakah of Ar-Rahmaan it takes form and finally through the Barakah of Ar-Raheem, it is preserved/ safeguarded for us to take benefit from. He then asked why we need to call anyone other than Allah subhaanahau wata’ala when He it is Who has power over all things? He then recited the name of “Allah!” followed by "Laa-ilaaha illallaah!" (it sounded truly beautiful!) He then explained: If one is need of Rizq (provision) who does one call? Ar Razzaaq is the Provider so call to Him thus; recite a few time s the wird of, "Laa-ilaaha illallaah!” (There is no other worthy of worship except Allah!)

An Extra Test. Continuing from the previous post.....

posted by ummi taalib on 20th June 2011 - 0 comments
A point worthy of deep reflection is that tests were also present in the past and 1432 years ago the same conditions were present as we have today. The enemies of Islam had allied themselves against Islam just as in the present era. However today we have an extra test and that is of media propagation and the Internet. There are forces behind it whose objective is to alienate the laypersons from the traditional Scholars by creating doubt regarding our basic Beliefs and the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam. Islam is the same as before yet despite the means of propagation of Islam and more Scholars and Islamic Institutions we see that there is less practice. Today when so many things are easier we find that people find practising Islam difficult and burdensome and trying to find ways out of it. In the past keeping full shar’ee Hijaab (covering fully in front of non-relations) was easy even in small houses. Today this is found “difficult”. Even fulfilling our duties to our parents, spouses, children etc. has become difficult whereas in the past people did not try and avoid it. The respect of elders which was present in the past is rare today. Young people readily accepted the advice of their elders whereas today the youth have set minds regarding their futures. Hayaa (modesty) is becoming a thing of the past. Today everything is questioned, why? The answer is simple. The propagation of the enemies of Islam has penetrated deep into our homes and our lives, into every street and every corner of the globe through the Internet. Traditional values are being wiped out and replaced by “modern, progressive thinking”. Deen and values are being wiped out today and replaced by doubt and questions. So what is the solution? The answer to this question is simple. Just as the efforts of the enemies of Islam have increased so our efforts have to increase manifold otherwise the consequences will be devastating, especially for the future generations. We have to turn to, and hold on fast to the traditional Scholars and Elders who have devoted their entire lives in attaining the correct understanding of Islam and passing the tests of life.

To Succeed or not to Succeed!

posted by ummi taalib on 17th June 2011 - 0 comments
Every second of the life we live is a test; in private, in public, in homes and in massajid, life is a test and a life of tests is not a life of continuous bliss. This test will decide whether we attain success in the Hereafter or not and if we desire success, then there a simple solution, “Qul inkuntum tuhibbunallaaha fattabi’oonee yuhbibkumullaahu wayaghfir thunoobikum. Wallaahu Ghafoorur Raheem. If you love Allah then follow me, Allah will then love you and forgive your sins. Allah is Most Forgiving. Most Merciful. (‘Aali Imraan 31) This is the reason our beloved Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam was sent. Look at his life in private and in public, look at his attitude towards those who were “apne” (those who were connected to him) and those who were “ghayr” (those who were not connected). Look at his life in total and then follow him and Allah subhaanahu wata’ala will love you and forgive you your sins. If you leave his way then success cannot be guaranteed. The question which arises now is, are we concerned regarding these tests and attaining success in the Hereafter? Is the effort present in our lives? If not, we need to reflect on how many years of our life have passed by and how many more years we could possibly live for. Once the reality of this thought becomes manifest then the worry of attaining success will follow. Think of it another way. In worldly matters such as exams in university or college or a madrassah, an atmosphere is created whereby students begin to make an effort. This is the very “atmosphere” which needs to be created within one’s self for the effort to strive for success can begin.

Speak Up But Dont Argue

posted by ummi taalib on 16th June 2011 - 0 comments
A man once asked Imam Ahmad, ‘I sometimes find myself in a gathering where the Sunnah is mentioned, but no-one apart from me has more knowledge of it. Shall I speak up and say something?’ Imam Ahmad then said, ‘State what the Sunnah is, but do not argue over it.’ The man then repeated his statement and so Imam Ahmad said, ‘I only see you to be an argumentative man!’ And this is what Malik (rahimahullah) meant in his saying (after informing people of the Sunnah), ‘And if they don’t accept it from you, then be silent.’ Mu’tamir ibn Sulayman: ‘I heard my father say, ‘You can never get a man to listen to you when you have just angered him.’

I seek from You Yourself

posted by ummi taalib on 8th June 2011 - 0 comments
"Koi tujh se kuch koi kuch chahta hai, Ilahi mein tujhse talabgaar tera"

Some ask You for something and others for something else. My Lord, I only seek from You Yourself.

Seldom do people ask of Allah by means of du’a, and when they do, they ask for things of this dunya. Then others ask for things of aakhirat. The true and real ardent lovers of Allah only desire Allah and His pleasure. The dunya has no value in their eyes nor does Jannat. What value would Jannat have without Allah! It is for this reason that the Ahlullah ask Allah for Himself.
