Baby and musical toys

Hadith

Narrated Abu-Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "No child is born except on Al-fitra (Islam) and then his parents make him Jewish, Christian or Magian (Zoroastrian), as an animal produces a perfect young animal: do you see any part of its body amputated?"

- Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 441

From the above hadith, we learn that every child is born on Islam. It is the parents responsibility to keep the child on Islam.

Being a parent of a newborn child is difficult within itself and it just gets harder as the child gets older. By keeping your children on the straight path, parents will be fulfilling their duty and will be rewarded greatly Insha Allah in this world and the hereafter.

Parenthood starts from the moment the mother of the child falls pregnant because it is from that stage that Allah has blessed the couple with a child. If parents want to give their children a good and Islamic up-bringing it would have to be from that stage. When a baby is developing in the womb of the mother by approximately 4 months the fetus can hear, obviously not as clear as we hear things but it is from this stage that as parents we begin to refrain our children from listening to those things that Allah and his messenger have abstained us from. We should read the Qur'aan and make our children enjoy listening to the words of Allah.

Musical Toys

Majority of the toys and equipments that are available for babies contain nursery rhythms, which is music. At that age, our children will not be accountable for what they do so they will not be sinful for playing the music on their toys and rocking to the music. It will be us as the parents for providing them with such toys.

You might find that your child comes to a certain age where every continuous sound especially music causes them to rock or sway. Some babies begin to do this with every sound including the sound of the microwave turned on and vacuum cleaner. The sight maybe was very delightful and attractive but to stop them from rocking and swaying with the sound of music is our responsibility because that is teaching them right from wrong. At that age it is common to encourage the little innocent child to do certain actions and enjoy the sound and movement and at the same time adults all have a good laugh and not think that this all falls under teaching the child wrong. By discouraging the child a few times they will understand that it is wrong and eventually stop.

Parents has a great role in their children, that's why a child that was born without a mother nor a father has a big difference compare to the ones that has, second factor are the toys because it helps them learn new things and explore a lot of things and nowadays the most common toys are musical toys, electronic toys.

Yes musical toys may be common but there are ways that one can block their children listening to music on the toys, if they wished. My son has a very helpful and educative toy but would not use it for that purpose. He would switch the toy on and select the music option and sit there listening to tunes one after another until we blocked off the music. Then he started to learn the alphabet and knew many letters before he turned 2.

Wa alaykum Salam.
Sorry for late reply, I've had a very busy year. I'm not too sure about Islamic pushing toys but there are many Laptop type toys that teach Duaas, Kalimah's, Surah's etc. One toy I bought for my children that they enjoy playing and have learnt the Arabic alphabet from is the talking Arabic alphabet wooden toy, www.islam4children.com/index.php?action=item&id=761. It is a little annoying as some of the letters are pronounced incorrectly but does help them learn.

Salaams,
my daughter has been given many musical toys and we havent given them to her for that reason. I feel quite sad that we cant do anything with them....
How did you manage to block the music off the toy you mentioned. Iwould love to know if I could do the same with hers so they dont keep collecting dust.jazakAllah

Wa Alaykum Salaam,

It's quite simple really. You should already know which switched activate Music. Open up the toy, (use a container to hold the screws because they can get lost within seconds). Once opened, located the switches from the inside.

All toys are different, some have switches, some have circuit boards and some have dials. Whatever the case, disconnect the wires (only one needs to be disconnected, cut) that make the connection to that switch. Alternatively, if you don't want to cut wires, you can very easily jam those buttons using paper, tape, card board, or anything that stops the music from being turned on.
