During Pregnancy

19th October 2008
What a pregnant woman might experience

If you're extremely tuned in to your body's rhythms, you may begin to suspect you're pregnant soon after conception. But most women won't experience any early pregnancy symptoms until the fertilised egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, several days after conception. Others may notice no signs of pregnancy for weeks and begin to wonder "Am I pregnant?" only when they miss a period.
Below is a list of some of the first signs of impending motherhood. You may experience all, some, or none of these symptoms of pregnancy:

* Food cravings. Yes, it's a cliché, but food cravings sometimes can be a sign of pregnancy. Don't rely on them as a sure symptom (it may be all in your head, or even a sign that your body is low on a particular nutrient), but if cravings are accompanied by some of the other symptoms on this list, start counting the days from your last period.

* Implantation bleeding or cramping. About eight days after ovulation, you may experience implantation spotting, a slight staining of a pink or brown colour, as well as some cramping. This is caused by the egg burrowing into the endometrial lining. You might also see some spotting around the time you expect your period. Sometimes this can be mistaken for a normal period.

* Frequent urination. Once the embryo implants and begins producing the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), you may find yourself going to the bathroom more often.

* Feeling exhausted. High levels of the hormone progesterone can make you feel very tired.

* Tender, swollen breasts. If you're pregnant, your breasts will probably become increasingly tender to the touch, similar to the way they feel before your period, only more so. Once your body grows accustomed to the hormone surge, the pain will subside.

* Altered sense of taste. You may notice that your sense of taste changes. Some women say they have a metallic taste in their mouth, others that they cannot stand the taste of coffee, tea, or a food they usually like. I couldn't stand the sight or smell of raw meat.

* Morning sickness. If you're lucky, morning sickness won't hit you until a few weeks after conception. (A lucky few escape it altogether.) But as early as a couple of days following conception, you may begin feeling nauseated and queasy. And not just in the morning, either. Pregnancy related nausea can be a problem morning, noon, or night.

* A missed period. If you're usually pretty regular and your period is late, it's worth trying a pregnancy test. A missed period is the surest sign of pregnancy in a woman of childbearing age who usually has regular periods.

If you are experiencing any, most or all of the above signs then it's worth taking a pregnancy test. A positive home pregnancy test will confirm whether you are pregnant or not.

Pregnancy tests can be bought almost everywhere but are quite expensive as you will only do the test, await the result and bin it. So try searching for them online, You'll be surprised at the bargain you may find. Whether you buy a cheap or expensive one it will most probably give the same result.

During Pregnancy

A person should not be ashamed of being pregnant or treat it as a big burden, as there are many beautiful virtues and rewards for being pregnant.

During pregnancy one must praise and thank Allah SWT excessively for making them able to have children. There were prophets such as Hadhrat Ibraheem AS and Hadhrat Zakariyyah AS who were making du'aa to Allah for pious children even in their old age.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: "The woman that dies in her virginity or during her pregnancy or at the time of birth or thereafter (in nifaas) will attain the rank of a martyr."

During this time, great care and precautions should be taken. During this stage, any physical weaknesses affect the growth of the child. Therefore one must eat healthy and rest a considerable amount.

A pregnant woman must remember at all times that from the moment she fell pregnant til the time she gives birth to the child that child is in her womb and remains a part of her. By the woman taking a little extra care of herself could possibly result in the child being well and healthy or by her slightest carelessness could result in the child being unhealthy.

Educating the child starts when the child is still in the womb of the mother. This is through her thoughts, feelings and the things she hears. Therefore one must stay happy, read the quraan and indulge in good activites, keeping in mind that your actions have an effect on your unborn child.

do you have any duaas to ensure baby develops normally and is healthy.
Blogger's Reply:
There are no specific Duaa that I know of for the normal development of the fetus. We should try and spend a lot of time in the worship of Allah and take advice of the experts. Eat healthy, exercise etc... We should do all that we can on our behalf to ensure good health and development of the little being inside and the rest is all in Allah's hands.

There a book I'm reading at the moment called Heaven Under your Feet by By Umm Hasan Bint Salim. Its catered for muslim women. Its a good reminder boook, that Pregnancy is an ultimate time to turn to Allah. "Not only is it a physical process, it is also a spiritual and emotional journey filled with excitement and apprehension. Heaven Under Your Feet accompanies sisters along this beautiful phase in life."
