Du'aa' in the Last Third of the Night

Of the great mercy of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى is that he has favoured certain times over others. Thus, He has distinguished these timings so that the worshipper can eagerly anticipate their arrival, and thus pray earnestly and sincerely. Had all timings been the same, the worshipper would not have had the enthusiasm and fervor that exists during more blessed times. Therefore is it important that the one who desires that his du'aa' be answered utilise these times, and ensure that his du'aa' be more frequent and sincere during them. One of these special times is during the last third of the night. The night extends from sunset to dawn, and can be divided into three parts. If, for instance, sunset is at 6:00 p.m., and dawn at 4:00 a.m., the night is then 10½ hours long, and each one third is 3½ hours long. The last one third would then extend from 1:00 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. During this time, when most of creation is in a deep sleep, the true worshipper is awake, earnestly praying to his Creator سبحانه و تعالى, reflecting upon Allaah's creation, the heavens and the earth. In fact, Allaah سبحانه و تعالى describes the true believers as those who:

[color=#ff0000]"And in the hours of dawn, they seek forgiveness from their Lord." (Sooratudh-Dhaariyaat, 51:18)

Du'aa' During Ramadaan

The month of Ramadaan is a blessed month, during which the Qur'aan was revealed, and the process of inspiration started upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Therefore, the du'a of Ramadaan is a blessed du'aa', and this can be inferred from the Prophet's hadeeth صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِذَا دَخَلَ رَمَضَانُ فُتِّحَتْ أَبْوَابُ الجَنَّةِ ، وَغُلِّقَتْ أَبْوَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ، وَسُلْسِلَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ [color=#351c75]"When Ramadaan comes, the Doors of Paradise are opened, and the Doors of Hell are closed, and the Shayaateen are chained up."[/color] So it can be inferred from this hadeeth that du'aa' during Ramadaan has a greater chance of being accepted, as the Gates of Paradise and Mercy are opened. The Hour When All Prayers Are Accepted!

There is a special hour on Friday (Jumu'ah), during which all prayers are accepted and answered by Allaah, all Glory and Praise be to Him. This is part of the blessings that Allaah سبحانه و تعالى has blessed this day with, over all the other days of the week. Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: فِيهِ سَاعَةٌ لاَ يُوَافِقُهَا عَبْدٌ مُسْلِمٌ، وَهْوَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي، يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى شَيْئًا إِلاَّ أَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ ‏.‏ وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ يُقَلِّلُهَا‏ [color=#351c75]"There is an hour (on Friday) during which, if any Muslim is standing in front of Allaah تعالى in salaah, and asking Allaah تعالى for something good, he will be granted his request." The Ruling Concerning One who Does Not Fast Ramadaan Without a Valid Excuse

If a person denies the obligation of the fast, he becomes a disbeliever. Its obligatory status is confirmed in the Qur'aan and numerous ahaadeeth of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. As for the one who believes in the fast but does not fast, there is a hadeeth which states, عرى الإسلام وقواعد الدين ثلاثة عليهن أسس الإسلام من ترك واحدة منهن فهو بها كافر حلال الدم : شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله والصلاة المكتوبة وصوم رمضان [color=#351c75]"The bare essence of Islaam and the basics, upon which Islaam has been established, are three. Whoever leaves one of them becomes an unbeliever and his blood may legally be spilled. [These acts are:] Testifying that there is no God except Allaah, the obligatory prayers and the fast of Ramadhaan." [/color] This hadeeth was recorded by Abu Ya'la and ad-Dailami. Some scholars have called it hasan. However, the correct view seems to be that of Shaykh al-Albaani رحمه الله, that the hadeeth is weak. But, most likely, it seems that it is a statement of the Companion ibn 'Abbaas رضي الله عنهما and not that of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Fasting the Month of Ramadaan

[center][color=#0000ff]Islaam is Built Upon Five [/b]عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْت رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه و سلم يَقُولُ: " بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ: شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ، وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ، وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ [/size] On the authority of Abu 'Abdur-Rahmaan 'Abdullaah, the son of 'Umar ibn al-Khattaab رضي الله عنهما who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم say: [color=#351c75]"Islaam is built upon five [pillars ]: testifying that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah, establishing the prayers, giving the zakaat, making the pilgrimage to the House and fasting the month of Ramadhaan." [b][center][color=#0000ff]The Meaning of [color=#0000ff]Siyaam [/i][/center][/b]Linguistically, siyaam means to abstain from something, such as abstaining from speaking. In the sharee'ah, it is a direct reference to abstaining from food, drink and sexual intercourse during the days of the month of Ramadhaan. This practice is one of the pillars of Islaam, as noted in this hadeeth.

Judge with Justice!

Allaah سبحانه و تعالى says,

[color=#ff0000]"Verily! Allah commands that you should render back the trusts to those, to whom they are due; and that when you judge between people, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching which He (Allah) gives you! Truly, Allah is Ever All-Hearer, All-Seer."[/color] (Sooratun-Nisaa', 4:58) Mufti Muhammad Shafi' رحمه الله comments, "It should be noted that Allaah Almighty has said, 'between people', and not 'between Muslims,' or 'between believers.' Thus, the hint given is that all human beings are equal in the sight of the decider of cases in disputes. They may be Muslims or non-Muslims, friends or enemies, or they may belong to the same country, colour, language, or they may be from another country, differ in colour and speak a different language. Those who have been made responsible to judge between them are duty-bound to cast aside all these connections and give their decision guided by whatever be the dictate of truth, right and just. ...It is the standing duty of those in authority that they should, whenever a case comes to them, give a judgement based on equity and justice without making any discrimination on the basis of race, country of origin, colour, language, even religion and creed."

Seeking Forgiveness for all Muslims and Praying for them

Part of the completeness of one's eemaan (faith) is that a person loves for his brother what he loves for himself. The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم said, لا يؤمن أحدكم حتى يحب لأخيه ما يحب لنفسه "None of you believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself." [1] In other words, no one is a true and complete believer - meeting all of the requirements and necesarry components of eemaan - until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself. This is one of the necessary components of being a true and complete believer. [2] Another important narration of this hadeeth may be found in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad رحمه الله.
