Wisdom of Allah

Shaykh Ashraf Ali Thanwi (RA) relates,

In a certain country, two people were on their deathbeds: one a Muslim, the other a non-muslim. The desire arose in the non-muslim's heart to eat fish...and despit having a pond in his garden; there were no fish present. A thought also arose in the Muslim's heart...to eat fresh ripe olives that were hanging upon a tree in his garden. Allah commanded one of his angels,"In so-and-so town, a non-muslim is about to die and his heart desires to eat fish.Go and place a fish in his pond so that his wish is fulfilled." To another angel, He commanded, "In so-and-so town a Muslim is about to die and his heart desires to eat ripe olives which are in his garden. Go and destroy these olives thereby preventing fulfillment of his wish." Accordingly, both angels enacted their respected missions. Upon returning, they began to question each other's task; puzzled they began to fathom a reason. Unable to understand they asked Allah, "O Allah! Whilst we have carried out Your Command, we fail to comprehend why a Muslim, who obeys Your ahkams (laws and rulings) and who had olives in his ownership was deprived from eating them? Moreover, the non-muslim, who disobeys and disbelieves in You and who did not even have a fish, his wish was fulfilled, why?"

The Fruit of Wordly Realationships

Shaykh Sr. Abdul Hai Arifee (RA) whilst attending the funeral of Shaykh Zafar Ahmed Uthmani (RA) recited the couplet,

[b]"The reward of a lifetime of friendship was thus,
My friends and associates came and threw dust."[/center]

No matter how intimate the relationship, at the time of funeral, one's acquaintances will try to throw at least three handful of soil in the grave...as if this is the final haqq(right) of a friend. By action, the living imply, 'henceforth, it is you and your deeds.' One should visit the graveyard to reflect upon these realities and the life to come in the Akhirah.

An atheist asked Imam Abu Hanifa, "What is the evidence pointing to the existence of Allah?"

He replied,"Forget it! At the moment, I am busy thinking about this ship. People tell me there is a big ship, it contains different goods on board. There is no one to steer it, no one maintaining it. Yet, this ship keeps going back and forth; it even traverses big waves on the oceans; it stops at the locations that it is supposed to stop at; it continues in the direction that it is supposed to head. This ship has no captain and no one planning its trips."

The atheist who posed the question interrupted and exclaimed, "What kind of strange and silly thought is this? How can any intelligent person think that some thing like this can occur?"

Imam Abu Hanifa said, "I feel sorry about your state! You cannot imagine one ship running without some one looking after its affairs. Yet you think that for this whole world, which runs exactly and precisely, there is no one who looks after it, and no one owns it."

Hearing the reply, the atheist was left speechless but he found out more about Haqq (The Truth) and proclaimed Islam.

"There is this strong smooth fortress.It has neither door nor window.It looks like white silver on the outside and like pure gold in the inside.While it is in this state, suddenly its walls crumble and out comes something alive that can hear and see.It looks beautiful and gives off a pleasing sound."
(He was of course speaking of an egg and the birth of a chick)

'Once a person met Malakul Maut (the Angel of Death) and complained,

This allows one to prepare for the meeting.However, your behaviour is very strange, whenever you wish, without any prior notification, you arrive to capture the ruh(soul)...what kind of behaviour is this?"[/center][/b]

Malakul Maut replied,[i] [center]"O brother, I forward so many notices that nobody in dunya (world) sends such a large number...But what to do?You pay no heed to my notices! Whenever you suffer some illness, this is one of my notices! When your hair begin to turn grey, this is one of my notices! When your grandchildren are born, this is one of my notices! The Stranger

[color=RED]A few months ago before I was born, my dad met a stranger who was new to our small town. From the beginning, dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer, and soon invited Him to live with our family. Though His outside appearance was not attractive, the stranger was quickly accepted and was around to welcome me into the world a few months later. As I grew up I never questioned His place in our family. In my young mind, each member had a special place. My Brother, Yusuf, few years my senior, was my example. Yasmin, my younger sister, gave me an opportunity to play 'Big Sister' and develop the art of teasing. My parents were complementary instructors - Mum taught me to love Allah Ta'alah, and dad taught me how to obey Him. But the stranger, who was our story teller, could weave the most fascinating tales. Adventures, mysteries and comedies were daily conversations. He could hold our family spellbound for hours each evening and would consume most of our times over the weekend. If I wanted to know about politics, history, or science, He knew it. He knew about the past and seemed to understand the present. The pictures He could draw were so life like that I would often laugh or cry as I watched. He was like a friend to the whole family. He took dad, my brother and me to our first major league cricket game. He was always encouraging us to see the movies and He even made arrangements to introduce us to several famous people. The stranger was a constant talker. Dad didn't seem to mind, but sometimes Mum would quietly get up - (while the rest of us were enthralled with one of His stories of a faraway place) - and go to Her room and read the Qur'an. She would sometimes quietly tell us that the Prophet, peace be upon Him said: "The beauty of one's faith is shunning all non-productive activities." ...I wonder now if she ever prayed that the stranger would leave. Yes you see, my dad ruled our household with certain moral convictions. But this stranger never felt an obligation to honour them. Swear, for example, was not allowed in our house, neither from our friends, adults or us. Our long time visitor, however, used occasional four letter words that burned my ears and made my dad squirm. To my knowledge the stranger was never confronted. My dad was a teetotaller who didnt permit alcohol in the house.
