Hanafi Madhab bashing: Watch your target!

posted by Muadh_Khan on 20th October 2012 - 0 comments
Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, After Maghrib today I was sitting down with one of our older Ulamah and he gave me a book on Hajj in which the writer has made this outlandish and outrageous statement about the Hanafi Madhab. “There is no evidence to suggest that pebbles for pelting the Shaytaan MUST be picked up from Muzdalifah and many books state this to be Fardh, Wajib or Sunnah and there is absolutely no evidence for this and this error must be rectified and instead pebbles must be picked up from near Jamaarat.” The writer passed long before I was born and Maulana was wondering how to respond to this. Unfortunately in his tremendous zeal to castigate and tarnish Hanafi Madhab the writer has taken an indirect stab at the actions of Sahaba & Taba’een ane let me explain how. I have checked four (4) separate books of Hanafi Madhab and NONE state that it is Fardh, Waajib or Sunnah to pick up pebbles from Muzdalifah, some say its Mustahab and some say it’s merely good to do so and many state that if there is an error in picking up pebbles then it can be picked up from Mina etc.

To lessen the painful memories of his teacher Shaykhul-Hind (Maulana) Mahmoodul-Hasan Deobandi (RA) decided to visit Shaykh (Maulana) Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (RA) every Thursday by traveling from Deoband to Gangoh and returning on Friday. When the students found out they also requested to accompany Shaykhul-Hind (Maulana) Mahmoodul-Hasan Deobandi (RA) to Gangoh and the permission was granted. Shaykhul-Hind (Maulana) Mahmoodul-Hasan Deobandi (RA) rented a mule and grabbed a stick to steer the mule and asked five of the students to ride the mule (taking turns) and it so happened that by the time they reached Gangoh Shaykhul-Hind (Maulana) Mahmoodul-Hasan Deobandi (RA) turn hadn't come while all the students had a ride. The students were embarrassed and discussed the matter with each other and one of the closer ones to Hazrat by the name of Muhammad Ali asked them to just have Shaykhul-Hind (Maulana) Mahmoodul-Hasan Deobandi (RA) ride once and he will take care of the rest. Students presented themselves in the company of their Shaykh i.e. Shaykhul-Hind (Maulana) Mahmoodul-Hasan Deobandi (RA) on Friday on the return journey while he grabbed the stick to steer the mule but they requested that this time that he should ride first and they will then take turns. Shaykhul-Hind (Maulana) Mahmoodul-Hasan Deobandi (RA) accepted and now the students looked at Muhammad Ali for his trick!

Straight talking to Muslim Husband!

posted by Muadh_Khan on 15th October 2012 - 1 comment
Alhumdolillah over the last nearly 2 decades Allah (SWT) has given me Taufeeq and Ulamah have given me permission to sit with many Muslim couples and also translate their works into English on the issue of marriage. I have heard a lot and observed many situations, patterns and circumstances and my intention is not to start dwelling on people’s individual circumstances. Rather, today I would like to discuss something which no Muslim husband has been able to refute or counter in all these years. Our Deen of Islam is perfect and the Sunnah of our dear and beloved Nabi (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) is noble, perfect and exemplary and it continuously emphasizes the need for “personal responsibility” instead of putting the blame on everything and everyone else. Allah (SWT) states in the Qur’aan categorically: [6:164]...And nobody does anything but to his own account... And the guidance of our dear and beloved Nabi (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) towards the Muslim husband is equally clear and categorical:

Forums & Life: Concord or Conflict?

posted by Muadh_Khan on 8th October 2012 - 0 comments
Shaykh (Maulana) Aslam Sheikhupuri (RA) attained the greatest honour of Shahada when he was gunned down in cold blood in Karachi in May this year (2012) after spending decades in propagating and spreading the message of Allah (SWT). Shaykh (RA)’s Tafseer sessions were immensely popular throughout Pakistan and Shaykh (RA) despite his disability (wheelchair bound) kept up a routine throughout his life which will put most fit and healthy people (half his age) to shame. Shaykh (RA) considered Tafseer of Qur’aan lessons and programs one of the genuine legacies of the Ulamah of Deoband and encouraged using all permissible means to organise them including video recording and transmission. Sometime ago I watched a video interview of the noble Shaykh (RA) and he was asked to clarify his position on video and photography and he summarised his view by saying that whatever is permissible in real life is also permissible on video and whatever is forbidden in real life is also forbidden on video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vrjRTiRCMw&feature=relmfu A truly precise, concise and succinct response from a truly knowledgeable Scholar of Islam.

Taqleed: Do you really understand what is at stake?

posted by Muadh_Khan on 2nd October 2012 - 1 comment
Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, I still remember all those debates, discussions and self doubts from the past about Taqleed. Why should I follow a Madhab? Why should I follow some guy called Abu Haneefa (RA)? Shouldn’t we be following Qur’aan & Sunnah? Where does it say in the Qur’aan & Sunnah to either follow a Madhab or follow (Imam) Abu Haneefa (RA)? As I got a little older, I realised that the problem wasn’t Taqleed rather it was my pride and shallow understanding of life, itself. You see, in life if you are not an expert you have to follow an expert since you don’t really have any other choice. This week I am in a lot of pain and the dentist tells me that I will need a root canal operation. This will be painful, expensive with a possibility of things not going according to plan. Funny thing is that last year the same Dentist told me that I will need a root canal and to get it before it gets worse but I thought I knew better since I am trained in medical sciences myself so I brushed aside the advice of the dentist and no way there is a possibility that the tooth may not be rescued. What I should have done is realised that I am not a Dentist and simply trusted the advice of an “expert” but my ego got in the way!
