Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

I remember buying one of the first HTC smart phones with windows and paying top money for it, having this device meant that I didn’t have to carry my PDA and phone and I could now just carry 1 device with which I could:

 1. Browse the web
 2. Check my email

Interaction with Non-Muslims

posted by Muadh_Khan on 21st February 2013 - 5 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

I have now lived in the West for nearly ¾ of my life, interacting regularly and on a daily basis with Non-Muslims with diverse backgrounds and opinions.

I have also lived and worked in Saudi Arabia where majority of the natives believe every Non-Muslim wears a cross, is an Israeli supporter, bent on destroying Islam and harming Muslims.  The Fatwaas of permissibility of consuming the commonly available meat and marrying local woman also stem from the misunderstanding that majority of the Non-Muslims in the west are Ahlul-Kitaab (people of the book).

Anyone who has ever lived, worked or studied in the west knows that most people are either agnostic or Christian by name and employment laws don’t require registration or tracking of religion in any field (of employment) let alone in abattoirs so your cow/lamb/sheep could be slaughtered by a Jew, or a Christian or a Hindu, or a Muslim or an Atheist so it’s ridiculous to assume that because the meat is available at an American or British Supermarket it was slaughtered by someone from  Ahlul-Kitaab (people of the book) and similar is the case of most women i.e. they are Christian but in name!

Anyways, back to the subject... :- )

Refutations or Insults?

posted by Muadh_Khan on 12th February 2013 - 0 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

When I was a young boy in the late 1970’s, something extraordinary happened which was one of the first initiate of its kind by Deobandi Ulamah. Shaykh (Mufti) Yusuf Ludhyanwi Shaheed (RA)was approached by the Jang Newspaper Management to start answering people’s Masail in a weekly newspaper column which Hazrat (RA) accepted after much deliberation because Jang wasn’t a religious newspaper and there was some trepidation about answering Mas’ail in a newspaper which also had unIslamic content on other pages. The section was entitled “Aap Kay Mas’ail Aur Un Ka Haal (Your Mas’ail and their solutions)” and it was a phenomenal success and it became a conduit for many Pakistanees to become familiar with Shias, Qadiyanees, Barewlees etc and as a little boy barely able to read Urdu I used to look forward to Friday papers, in fact I used to run out to fetch the papers for my father the moment I heard the cycle bell of the hawker and then put my Urdu reading skills to the test!

Afghanistan (1839-2013): Message for British Prime Minister!

posted by Muadh_Khan on 4th February 2013 - 2 comments
Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, History: By the 1830’s the British Empire was firmly entrenched in India and the British controlled more land mass and more wealth flowed into London than ever before. British Empire continued to advance up the Ganges River Northwards and were eyeing up Afghanistan as a Gateway to the resources and lucrative markets of Central Asia. British Empire was also suspicious of Russian invasion into India through Afghanistan. The King of Afghanistan at that time was Amir Dost Muhammad Khan who had recently lost his second Capital Peshawar to the Sikhs and wanted help from British Empire to help retake it but the British declined.

Prayer of a Hanafi behind another Imam

posted by Muadh_Khan on 22nd January 2013 - 10 comments
Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, Many Muslims who follow the Hanafi Madhab in our times are confused about the matter of praying behind an Imam who is following another Madhab because the method or conditions of Wudhu or prayer is different to the Hanafi Madhab. Firstly, please understand that the four (4) Madhabs are based on Ahadeeth and actions of Sahaba (RA) and the later generations and in the earliest generations of Islam we find no precedence of believers refusing to pray behind each other. Secondly, this issue can only be discussed with respect to Aqeedah (creedal differences) or Fiqh (jurisprudence differences) and Hanafi Ulamah have spoken with regards to both. Aqeedah (Creedal point of view): Imam Tahawi (RA) was a Hanafi, an Imam in Aqeedah and he makes the point sufficiently clear: ونری الصلاۃ خلف کل بر وفاجر من اھل القبلۃ ، ونصلی من مات منھم

Practical advice for the the depressed

posted by Muadh_Khan on 18th January 2013 - 0 comments
Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, Before we begin we must understand and internalise that a believer never loses hope in the Mercy of the one who is the Most Merciful, conversely it’s the job of Shaytaan to ensure that we lose heart and hope in the Mercy of Allah (Subhanahu Wa’ Ta’ala). It is Kuf’r to lose hope in the Mercy of Allah (Subhanahu Wa’ Ta’ala) because it is the initial weapon of the Shaytaan which gradually leads to losing faith in Allah (Subhanahu Wa’ Ta’ala), itself. Mental Battle: Mentally, everyday you must read and ponder upon the Mercy of Allah (Subhanahu Wa’ Ta’ala) and renew your hope because Shaytaan is working full time to do the exact opposite, i.e. to make you lose hope and then you are on your way down on a very slippery slope. [12:87] O my sons, go and search for Yusuf and his brother, and do not lose hope in the mercy of Allah. In fact, only the infidels lose hope in Allah‘s mercy.

Rizana Nafeek (RA) & exploitation of South Asians in Saudi Arabia

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barkatuh, [4:135] O you who believe, be upholders of justice - witnesses for Allah, even though against (the interest of) your selves or the parents, and the kinsmen. One may be rich or poor, Allah is better caretaker of both. So do not follow desires, lest you should swerve. If you twist or avoid (the evidence), then, Allah is all-aware of what you do. The story of Sister Rizana Nafeek (RA) is another tragic turn in the never ending saga of exploitation of South Asians in Saudi Arabia, unfortunately I don't expect most Muslims (Scholars and laymen) in the west to be concerned and bothered because: 1) Many of our Scholars and institutes are covertly and overtly funded by the Saudi Government 2) Many of our brothers and sisters think that since Saudi Arabia has less Bid'ah than many other Muslim countries we can turn a blind eye to their oppression and exaggerations of Islamic Shariah, basic humanity and decency.

Shame & Modesty are part of Islam

Haya & Modesty are interwoven into the fabric of every believing man and woman and all of us desire to be adorned from this noble characteristic of the Prophets. It equally applies to believing man and woman and we are supposed to abstain from licentious contact, illicit glances, unregulated exchanges of emails, tweets, facebook encounters, flirtatious open and public exchanges on Islamic forums and most certainly PMs.

Windows 8 = Consume! Consume! Consume!

posted by Muadh_Khan on 12th December 2012 - 2 comments
Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh, Windows 8 is the latest Operating System release by Microsoft aimed at consumers. First look at Windows 8 interface shows that its fast to boot, slick and filled with Social Networking & Leisure tools i.e. you can tweet, post on Facebook, manage your music library and watch your favorite youtube videos with ease and with touch and herein lies the problem. Metro (interface for Windows 8) is designed for touch like your phone or ipad instead of a mouse and keyboard so while it whizzes, slides and flies beautifully it is rather clunky and cumbersome to be used as a "productivity tool" in a corporate environment. Here is the punch line Windows 8 is designed for content consumption rather then content production!
