Cadbury Malaysia Chocolate: Non Issue

posted by Muadh_Khan on 5th June 2014 - 8 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Although this issue is now resolved, let me just remind our readers how rigorous scientific testing actually works. One of the fundamental aspects of any credible scientific testing or study is REPEATIBILITY, let me explain.

If my blood group is B + then you can take my blood to any blood bank in the world test it and it should report the group to be B+. The findings must be repeatable and if you are unable to consistently arrive at the same result or if some of the labs report a different finding then it’s a problem either in your testing method or methodology. Its as simple as that for a laymen to understand.

Then let’s take this testing concept a bit further. Suppose I take the blood of 25 readers of this blog and send the blood (marked only with numbers 1-25) and let’s suppose that 3 of the readers are B + and those samples are marked as Sample 5, 19 and 25 respectively then all blood banks should report consistent findings. Again if the reports are inconsistent or one blood bank reports differently then we need to start looking at errors in the method or methodology.

BJP, Indian Elections and Muslims 101

posted by Muadh_Khan on 14th May 2014 - 3 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

We have just witnessed the conclusion of elections in India and poised to hear the results and the winner within the next 48 hours.

Many of the Muslims in the west neither understand the politics of India nor the repercussions on Indian Muslims who demographically make India the 3rd largest country with Muslim population. In the 2014 elections BJP has emerged as a dominant force, whether it wins and forms the next Government only the future will tell. BJP is the political wing of RSS which is a right wing Hindu Nationalist paramilitary organisation. RSS was the party which organised the demolition of Babri Masjid.

The purpose of this short blog is to make Muslims (outside of India) aware of the views of BJP towards Islam and Muslims.

Dr Subramanian Swamy (PhD) merged his Janata party into the BJP in August 2013 and is widely tipped to become the next Finance minister of India (in case of BJP win in Indian elections). Here is a short excerpt from his Interview on Indian TV, the full Interview is truly an eye opener, consider these views expressed as a trailer

Condemning the senseless and barbaric murder of Ann Maguire

posted by Muadh_Khan on 29th April 2014 - 0 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Ann Maguire was a 61 year old (mother of two) stabbed to death by a student at Corpus Christi Catholic College (Leeds, UK). Based on recollection of students (past and present) Ann was a wonderful teacher who touched the lives of students (in her care) and created wonderful memories cherished by everyone who came across her.

This is a tragedy of epic proportions. As a Muslim I am appalled by this senseless act and saddened by the state of society which demeans its teachers.

Teachers build tomorrow and the respect and dignity of teachers is being eroded from our society. 2/5th of the teachers quit within 5 years of qualifying in UK and teacher bullying is a significant factor for our best and brightest leaving the professional altogether both in US and UK. Cyber-bullying is making things worse for teachers.

I know of Non-Muslims who have chosen to stay at majority Muslim (pupil) School because of better behaviour and discipline of the pupils. Therefore, I suggest Department of Education and those serious about the resolving the issue to learn from Islam and Muslim professionals in their midst. A new framework for teacher respect needs to be enacted and pertinent Islamic guidelines can be drafted into its structure.

Can a Qadhi (or Mufti) reject moon sighting testimony?

posted by Muadh_Khan on 23rd April 2014 - 3 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Many of our brothers and sisters are under the impression that the testimony of someone who attests to the sighting of the moon must be accepted. They further add that it is particularly binding when the person is of sound character, judgement and standing.

This misunderstanding has reached such epic proportions that when (incorrect) sighting from Saudi Arabia is rejected some of our brothers and sisters immediately jump and say:

  1. Are you saying that Muslims in Saudia are liars?

Fixing your life when you hit rock bottom

posted by Muadh_Khan on 16th April 2014 - 2 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Recently received an email from a Sister from Pakistan on the website about her life being in tatters and she needed to build herself backup.

I referred her to Mashaykh in Pakistan but these requests are frequent and the frequency of these incidents is indeed alarming.

This is a common occurrence amongst Non-Muslims but unfortunately due to gradual weakening of Eemaan and slackening of Islamic practises the spiritual (abyss) seems bottomless at time even for Muslims.

If you read the achievements of Non-Muslims, guidance from experts and plethora of self-help guides there is a lot of emphasis on “processes” but little on Islamic spirituality. This shouldn’t be surprising since Western Academia historically gave little importance to spirituality and whereas the balance is tilting it is mostly on self-appeasing spirituality rather than a divinely guided religion such as Islam.

Russel Crowe's Noah: An opportunity for Muslims

posted by Muadh_Khan on 9th April 2014 - 2 comments

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Driving around in UK it is hard to ignore the gigantic posters of the new Hollywood movie "Noah" starring Russel Crowe. A few years ago there was a huge reaction to cartoons associated with Sayyidina Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam). I say associated because nothing can even come close to the likness of the Habib of Allah (SWT).

Not even close! Nevertheless many Muslims reacted at the defamation of our beloved Sayyidina Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam).

As far as Islamic faith is concerned we don't discriminate or distinguish between any of the Prophets of Allah (peace be upon all of them) so I don't understand as to why our Ulamah and Mashaykh have remained largely silent at the clear and blatant depiction of Sayyidina Nuh (AS) known as Noah to the Christian world.

Or of Sayyidina Musa (AS) or Moses and others in the past?
