The scandal of drunk Mullah of Pakistan

18th October 2014

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

So the social media is abuzz with the news of the “drunk Mullah” of Pakistan…

The Secularists, Modernists and Anti-Islam forces are rubbing their hands with glee and working overtime to spread the news of Hafiz (Maulana) Tahir Mahmood Asrhafi (HA) and the video of his apparent slurred speech and incoherent gestures. I say “apparent” because so far nothing has been proven and human dignity and decency demands that “Maulana” be treated as innocent until proven guilty. However, in the present day climate of hysteria all reason has been efficiently dispensed with and let alone “Maulana” but even Islam (and its principles) have been judged to be guilty. Who needs “sound reason”, “proper investigation” and “due process” when we have youtube, twitter and facebook? Take a good look at the subject of the tweet which impartial, above-board BBC decided to feature in association with this scandal.

Most of those tweeting and updating their facebook, mocking are showing their ignorance to the religion of Islam. My religion (and I have no qualms in using these words) was declared by Allah (SWT) to be the final religion, perfect and free from error and the divinely guided choice for my salvation.

[5:3] ...Today, I have perfected your religion for you, and have completed My blessing upon you, and chosen Islam as Din (religion and a way of life) for you...

Once someone has cepted “Islam” to be perfect and adopted it to be their way of life then they have to look at issues in the light of revelation from Allah (SWT) upon His Prophet (Peace be upon Him). Allah (SWT) commands a Muslim to be just (above all):

[4:135] O you who believe, be upholders of justice - witnesses for Allah, even though against (the interest of) your selves or the parents, and the kinsmen. One may be rich or poor, Allah is better caretaker of both. So do not follow desires, lest you should swerve. If you twist or avoid (the evidence), then, Allah is all-aware of what you do.

The most perfect Human being who was chosen to be recipient of this (divine) revelation through his perfect speech, perfect character and perfect example personified (nay excelled) in implementing this golden commandment of implementing justice (at whatever cost) and declared that if his own daughter Fatima (RA) would have been guilty he would not hesitate to punish her in the following words:

...O people, those who have gone before you were destroyed, because if any one of high rank committed theft amongst them, they spared him; and it anyone of low rank committed theft, they inflicted the prescribed punishment upon him. By Allah, if Fatima, daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, I would have her hand cut off..[Muslim]

Pakistan was formed in the name of Islam and if Islam was (truly) implemented then there would be no mocking and venting frustration on twitter; rather the matter would have been investigated and dealt with!

So far there has been no investigation, no proof and no charges against the Maulana. But let’s jump the gun and assume the trial by social media to be valid that he was indeed drunk, so what?  Islam is pIF he is proven to be guilty he has made an error (of judgement) and committed a sin. The same rules and regulations apply to him and the same privileges are granted to him (by Islam) as any other Muslim. Being a “Maulana” neither absolves him from rules and regulations of Islam nor suspends his privileges in any way.  Islam is perfect but its adherents are humans and to err is human as Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) said:

كل ابن آدم خطاء وخير الخطائين التوابون

Every son of Adam sins, and the best of those who sin are those who repent. [Tirmidhi]

It is a failure of Pakistan and its system in not imparting swift (and above board) justice which has led people to vent their frustrations on social media, this is the not the fault of Islam or being a “Maulana” but the fault of Pakistan veering off course from its original goal to be an exemplary Islamic state.

The naïve and unlearned (from an Islamic perspective) beat the drums of their ignorance at all such occasions in jest and mockery but perhaps they should spend their energy in learning Islam, following Islam and (above all) implementing Islam.

As for Hafiz (Maulana) Tahir Mahmood Asrhafi (HA) let Justice take its course and remember that basic decency (let alone Islam) demands for us to presume innocence until proven guilty and if he is (found to be) guilty then don’t tarnish the whole of “Islam” with the actions of one man; isn’t this what the war on terror has been doing to all of us in the name of actions of a few???

very good reminder. i see the mushriq brealwis are having a field day on their forums. they seem to have a very unhealthy obsession and hatred for ulema.

even if he was drunk he is human, apart from that being beneath the green dome (saw) who else is free from sin? yet modernists seculartis and mushrik brealwis somehow got the idea ulema espeically deobandi or any on te haqq cant make mistakes. i wonder if the brealwis will call ali (ra) names for being drunk durin salah

Yes they have hatred in their hearts and just want to target Islam and Ahlus-Sunnah

It says in the bbc link provided:
"In an interview with BBC Trending, he denied having consumed alcohol and instead said he had been chewing paan, a traditional mixture of tobacco leaves."

And even if this is the truth, there is a lesson for all of us who think we are pious or somehow "theykaydar" of Islam, that those sinners who might have sinned at onetime in secrecy, and would have done tauba , then years later we should not try to humiliate them in public by exposing them.

The irony is in the clip where he is accused to be drunk, he is humiliating Imran Khan for his accused out of wedlock child, which was a cheap shot on his behalf being a religious person. And Allah Tala turned the tables and the same video has become a source for his own humiliation in the world. May Allah protect us all, and keep ourselves humble.Ameen

I must say it's a decent exchange of views I have come across after a while. I agree with the principle of not holding someone responsible for any wrong doing until proved otherwise. The argument on the other hand by BlueSolar is strong as well. Maulana too should not cash on any mean opportunity put in front of him by our cheap media (not all). I wouldn't blame muslims, ulema or Islam for anyone's foul actions, no matter how religious he or she is. We all have to answer to Allah and we are not the judges.
I having said that, I would spare no moment in calling molana Fazal Rehman, a munafiq and opportunist and self centred person because over the years we have seen what he has been doing. Again it's not ulema or Islam it's just another person (even if he is a molana) who is using religion for his personal gains.

Yes BlueSolar has very valid points, Masha'Allah.

Assalaamu alyakum

Maulana does not need to defend himself, if he has indeed sinned then Only Allah can forgive Him as we mere humans are not the JUDGE of anyone!

We need to look at ourselves, because not anyone of us is perfect, it amazes me how others are always quick to pull out ulemas so called faults but themselves do not pratice anything except verbal slander.

I as a revert find it disgraceful how so called born muslims always are quick to judge. FEAR ALLAH! and look over anothers faults and pray for there forgiveness, don't always jump to conclusions.

SallALLAHU Alayhi Wassallam

W-Salam, Those picking on him are Secularists and Modernists who have an agenda to advance in Pakistan. Muslims are thinking long the same lines as you...
