Russel Crowe's Noah: An opportunity for Muslims

9th April 2014

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

Driving around in UK it is hard to ignore the gigantic posters of the new Hollywood movie "Noah" starring Russel Crowe. A few years ago there was a huge reaction to cartoons associated with Sayyidina Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam). I say associated because nothing can even come close to the likness of the Habib of Allah (SWT).

Not even close! Nevertheless many Muslims reacted at the defamation of our beloved Sayyidina Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam).

As far as Islamic faith is concerned we don't discriminate or distinguish between any of the Prophets of Allah (peace be upon all of them) so I don't understand as to why our Ulamah and Mashaykh have remained largely silent at the clear and blatant depiction of Sayyidina Nuh (AS) known as Noah to the Christian world.

Or of Sayyidina Musa (AS) or Moses and others in the past?

[2:285] The Messenger has believed in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and the believers as well. All have believed in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers. We make no division between any of His Messengers, and they have said: .We have listened, and obeyed. Our Lord, (we seek) Your pardon! And to You is the return.

In my mind and in my humble and unqualified opinion these are oppurtunites for us (Muslims in the West) to make our position CRYSTAL CLEAR on these matters i.e.:

  1. We believe in universal respect and dignity
  2. We believe in over-arching respect and dignity for all human (in general) and of all Prophets of Allah (in particular)

Many of my traditional brothers and sisters will take the stance that movies are Haram and cease further discussion. The point here is not for practising Muslims (Masha'Allah) but to present Islam in its true (and authentic) light and to open hearts and minds towards Islam.

We (Muslims) don't stand for any depiction of any Prophet of Allah (SWT) and this is our Shariah and by taking this stance we will come across principled and logical and it may open the hearts of others towards Islam. The Deen of Allah (SWT) is principled, the ultimate truth and logical, in fact and each and every positive adjective pales in comparison to the superlative nature of the Deen of Allah (SWT) but our job is to ensure that it is conveyed and its supremacy asserted.

The Deen of Allah (SWT) doesn't need us but we need it to make our Dunya worthwhile and our Aakhirah supreme! Fortunate are those who are chosen for the Service of this Deen.

Lets see how many of our Ulamah and Mashaykh see this prime oppurtunity and avail it.

May Allah (SWT) give us all the ability to serve the Deen of Allah (SWT) and for our lives to be used for it [Ameen].

Jzkll for highlighting this and I totally agree/share your concern.
It's a sad situation, which plays on my mind, Islam is complete and we should pick/choose aspects of it.
Please keep highlighting and educated the likes of me.

This is not the first time.... I remember in my childhood there's even a half musical animation movie of Moses.... "The Prince of Egypt". But the fact that even many Europeans (nonmuslims) countries ban or reject this Noah movie is interesting. Either they are that far in secularism , or this movie is troublesome from the beginning for public to see. My gut feeling says it might be the second reason...
Blogger's Reply:
No European (Non-Muslim) country has banned or has rejected this movie at all. Jzk
