TweetAre you striving to reform yourself, and find that no matter how hard you try, you keep on faltering? Do not despair fellow seeker of Allah! Here is a small prescription that gave a lot of hope to my helpless heart. Remember, Allah is aware of your desire (talab) to reform, and Allah will surely not let it go in vain, for our Allah is the Most Kind, the Most Loving, the Most Appreciative. If your clothes are stained on a small spot, you won't let it get completely soiled just because of that small spot. You will wash it off and try to prevent it from getting dirty again. Even if they become dirty several times, you won't just dispose of it, but you will wash it repeatedly. The same applies to our hearts and souls. If they are stained with the filth of sin and disobedience, we should not let go, but rather rinse and cleanse them as many times as they become dirty. This is a very easy way of pleasing our Creator, especially for weak people like ourselves. Allah loves those who turn to Him in repentance. And Allah never tires of accepting the repentance of the sincere ones. May Allah forgive us all and be pleased with us and grant us steadfastness in our endeavor to find His love and please Him. Ameen.
From the discourses of Hakeem-ul-Ummat, Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (rahimahumullah)
A person should daily seek pardon for his transgressions, admit his inadequacy and futility verbally, and supplicate for his reformation. Do this for only ten minutes daily. You do not have to drink any medicine, but at the same time do not discard the prevention. Merely use this brief treatment at the time of sleeping. You will witness that within a few days, you will acquire aid from the unseen, to the extent that your courage and determination will increase, you will not incur any difficulty , and hardships will not distress you. In short, you will attain such unseen assistance that is inconceivable.
Supplicate as follows:
"O Allah, I am a very sinful servant of yours. I intend to ovey You but my intentions cannot achieve anything. Everything can occur with You wish. I desire to be reformed but do not have the courage. My reformation (islaah) is in Your control. O Allah, I am extremely unworthy, evil, and sinful. I am helpless. You assist me. My heart is feeble. I do not have strength to refrain from sin. You grant me the fortitude. I do not have any means of salvation. You create the means of my salvation from the unseen. O Allah, whatever sins I have committed till now, forgive them with Your mercy. I do not claim that I will never commit them again. I know that I will perpetrate them in future but I will seek forgiveness for them."
اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حُبَّكَ اَحَبَّ اِلَيَّ مِنْ نَفْسِيْ وَ اَهْلِيْ وَ مِنَ الْمَآءِ الْبَارِدِ O Allah make Your love more beloved to me than myself, my family, and cold water." Ameen
