18 Precious advices from Ameer'ul Mui'mineen Umar ibn Al Khattab RA Hadhrat Saeed bin Musayyib RA reports that there were 18 guidelines that Hadhrat Umar RA formulated for the people, every one of which is filled with wisdom. He said, (1) When someone disobeys Allaah in matter that impacts on you, you can give him no punishment worse than obeying Allaah in matters that impact on him. (2) Always assume the best about your brother unless you learn something about him that you absolutely cannot reconcile. (3) Never assume the worst about any statement that a Muslim makes as long as you are able to make a favourable interpretation. (4) The person who exposes himself to slander must never rebuke anyone who holds a bad opinion of him. (5) Whoever guards his secrets will retain the choice in his hands. (6) Ensure that you keep true friends to stay under their wings because they are a source of beauty during times of prosperity and a means of protection during times of hardship.

Dont get Lost in the Debate
! Sometimes we get so lost in the discussion we tend to overlook other basic etiquette that is required when engaging in debate. We are often overcome with emotion and lose focus of the fact that the person we differ with is still a muslim, or at times even an álim. My Honorable Teacher, Al-Muhaddith Shaykh Muhammad Áwwamah (may Allah protect him) aptly draws our attention to the approach we ought to have towards our rivals. He writes: The sincere intellectuals have a different attitude towards their adversaries which goes way beyond the mere issue at hand. They actually pay regard to the close connections that link them to each other. Those links are: a) Humanity

Once a group of people who were against Maulana Qasim Nanotwi RA, came to him asking him to pray the jannaza salah of a boy. What they had actually had done was made a plan to mock Maulana and make a fool out of him. They told a boy to lay down in a shroud and pretend to be dead, and after the janaza salah they would give a signal for him to get up. But Maulana Qasim Nanotwi RA was already aware of this due to the following; Abu Saeed Khudri (RA) relates that Prophet (SAW) said: Be fearful of Momins intelligence and his foresight in understanding of the human nature, because he sees things by Allahs given vision, and recited Aayah 75 of Surah Al-Hijr, which reads: There truly is a sign in this for those who can learn [Tirmizi] So they asked Maulana to perform the jannaza salah he refused and said I would not do so, they asked again and he declined again. They persisted in their request and finally Maulana accepted, after the salah had finished they signaled to the boy to get up and he would not do so. Maulana Qasim Nanotwi RA said " he will now wake up on the day of judgement" narrated by Hazrat Shaykh Abdur Raheem Naqshbandi Mujaddidi db The moral of the story is do not disrespect and hold enmity against the friends of Allah and if you cannot respect them, then keep your distance from them. The following should explain why;

The Lonely Ember A Musalli of a certain Masjid, who previously had been attending salaah in congregation regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the Imaam decided to visit him. It was a chilly evening. The Imaam found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for the Imaams visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a big chair near the fireplace and waited. The Imaam made himself comfortable but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the play of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the Imaam took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone. Then he sat back in his chair, still silent. The host watched all this in quiet fascination. As the one lone embers flame diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and dead as a doornail. Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. Just before the Imaam was ready to leave, he picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it. As the Imaam reached the door to leave, his host said, May Allah reward you so much for your visit and especially for the fiery sermon. I shall be back for salaah in the Masjid at Fajr. Invite (all) to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and reason with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for your Lord knows best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance. (Quran Surah An-Nahl: 125)

Mawlana Ghulam Habib Naqshbandi There is no rank higher than the rank of prophethood. Nabi (S) is the one who does Amba and Amba is the one who delivers news and knowledge. Ambiya were sent as teachers. Nabi (S) said, I was sent as a teacher. The reason of the appointment of Ambiya was for teaching and learning, therefore teaching and learning is the highest work of all. Teaching and learning is what educates humanity to humans and makes humans rise above the rest of the creation. The rank of any specific knowledge depends upon the personality that the knowledge is attributed to. Deen and the knowledge of Deen are attributed to none other than the pride of prophets Muhammad Mustafa (S). If Muhammad Mustafa (S) had not conveyed and further taught the uloom and the Maarif taught by Allah (SWT), then no one could have become an Alim. Muhammad Mustafa (S) taught this to the Sahaba, who in turn taught it to the Tabieen, and so on and so forth till it reached us. Hence the knowledge of the prophets has reached us through teaching and learning. The humanity of humans, the belief of believers, the protection of the Deen, and the strength of the Deen is therefore only possible through the strengthening of teaching and learning. The centers of teaching and learning of the knowledge of the prophets are the Madaaris and the Makaatib. Wherever these are present, the illumination of knowledge is present, whereas in the areas where there are no Madaaris or Makaatib, and the authentic ulema are not present, darkness is still widespread. In these places, people narrate whatever they feel like, i.e. fabricated narrations, tales and stories, and as a result un-Islamic customs are prevalent. Allah (SWT) is the protector of the Deen. Allah (SWT) for the benefit of humanity has set-up a system for the protection of Deen, and he has set-up a chain of ulema, fuqaha, and sufiyya who are the bearers of the Quran and Sunnah. Until the appointed time, Allah (SWT) will continue to produce the sincere protectors and bearers of His Deen, though they may be a minority. The habit of ulema, fuqaha, and the sufiyya has always been to set-up Madaaris for the sake of humanity wherever they went, so that teaching and learning may continue along the right lines. One such personality of our times was Murshid-e-Alam Mahboobul-Arifeen Hazrat Maulana Ghulam Habib Naqshbandi (RA) (1322-1401 AH). He was a well known Deeni personality of our times who taught the lessons of following the Sunnah for 48 years. The establishment of Masaajid, Madaaris and Makaatib was always first and foremost of his goals. He used to try to use all possible ways and means for the propagation of the Deen and Kalima. He used to say, The harms that the Muslims suffered under the rule of the British in the Sub-continent, no other nation had to endure. The British based on their power and stronghold raised false prophets, Biddatees (people who practice bidah), and false ulema who loved fame, glory and wealth. The British tried their utmost to derail the Muslims from the truth, and tried their best to erase Islam and Islamic traditions; the people upon the truth suffered much under them. After the war of 1857, the ulema and Auliya (who had concern for the Deen) saw that it was no longer possible to fight the British; therefore to protect the Deen and the Knowledge of the Deen they set up institutions. Hence Darul-uloom Deoband was set-up, and its effects were felt throughout not only the sub-continent, but the whole Islamic world in general. The area that I was raised in and spent my youth was full of unauthentic narrations. Therefore I have made the set-up of Madaaris and Makaatib a mission in my life, because the darkness of Jahaalah (illiteracy) can only be warded through Madaaris.

Inception of the great revival. Early history of the Resurgence The Mother we had left to die. Assalaamu wa alay wa rahmatullaah wa barakath, When Hadhrat Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Saheb (rahmatullaah alaih) commenced his mission of propagation, even the Ulamah were at variance with him and even the most eminent scholars tended to be critical towards him, but placing his confidence in Allah, he nonetheless planted the roots of this mission and went ahead. He showed no outward sign of being awe-struck by their criticism and condemnation. Similarly, when he revived the work of Tableegh (propagation), he attracted criticism from the entire fraternity of scholars but he went ahead with his mission. This was so because of the fact that it was a forgotten mission, lying dormant over a period of so many years and the fact that either the history of the Sahabah (radhiyallahu anhum) was not before them or they merely browsed through it perfunctorily. They had no inclination whatsoever to extract and deduce from the historical accounts of the Sahabah. Similar was the case with their superficial study of Ahadith, they lacked in drawing deductions from the Ahadith.

A Hindu organisation in India published several heartbreaking and insulting books to incite and stir up the passionate feelings Muslims have for Islam. Towards the end of 1923, Raajpaal, an active supporter of this organization, again published an abusive book in which the honour of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was openly attacked. This publication caused a huge cry in the entire country. The Muslims held large meetings and gatherings to object and protest against it. A case was opened against Raajpaal who was given a six month sentence and a thousand rupee fine!! Thereafter the high court freed him and also pardoned the fine. This abusive book continued to be published as well. On the night of the first of April 1929, a youngster by the name of Alamud Deen, together with his brother, attended a meeting in Lahore in a garden near the Delhi Gate. Hadhrat Moulana Sayyid Ataa-Ullaah Shah Bukhaari (rahmatullahi alaih) delivered an emotional and touching talk. Though clause 144 of the Indian constitution had been invoked, thus barring any type of meeting or gathering, yet the Muslims held a unique gathering. This lover of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) delivered such a heart-rending talk on the noble reputation of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) that it reduced the entire crowd to tears. People cried aloud uncontrollably. In his address to the Muslims he said, Today you have gathered here to protect the honour and respect of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Today, the honour of that very personality who has brought honour to mankind is in danger. The honour of this great personality is being attacked, honour that all creation is justly proud of. Hadhrat Mufti Kifaayatullah Saahib (rahmatullahi alaih) and Hadhrat Moulana Ahmad Saeed Dehlawi (rahmatullahi alaih) were present in that meeting. Moulana Ataa-Ullaah Bukhaari (rahmatullahi alaih) addressing them said, Today the mother of the believers, Hadhrat Aishah (radiyallahu anha) and Hadhrat Khadijah (radiyallahu anha), are calling out at the doors of Mufti Kifaayatullah and Moulana Ahmad Saeed, We are your mothers. Do you not know that the disbelievers are abusing us? O people check! Is Hadhrat Aishah (radiyallahu anha) not standing at your door? These words pierced into the deep recesses of the hearts with such passion and fervour that the gazes of the listeners instantly shifted towards the door. From all directions the echoes of sighs and cries could be heard. He continued, The condition of your love is such that in normal circumstances it will fight till the bitter end, but do you not know that today Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is uneasy beneath the Green Dome! Today Hadhrat Khadijah (radiyallahu anha) and Hadhrat Aishah (radiyallahu anha) are restless! Do you have any place for the mothers of the believers in your hearts? Today the mother of the believers, Hadhrat Aishah (radiyallahu anha) is seeking her right from you, that very Aishah (radiyallahu anha) whom Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) used to call Humayra and who softened the miswaak for Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) at the time of his death. Remember, if you give your lives for Hadhrat Khadijah (radiyallahu anha) and Hadhrat Aishah (radiyallahu anha) then this is not something insignificant! Hadhrat Moulana Ataa-Ullaah Saheb (rahmatullahi alaih) further said: As long as there is even one Muslim alive, then those who are attacking the honour of the Prophethood of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) cannot be at ease. The police are full of lies, the government is corrupt and the deputy commissioner is helpless. They do not stop the absurd talks of the Hindu newspapers but they stop the lectures of the honourable Ulama. The time has come for this clause 144 to be broken. I am going to show you that with the bottom end of my shoe I will crush this clause. It was as if his lecture had set the entire city on fire. In Lahore, meetings were now being held at every corner against this disgusting book, its author and its publisher. On the sixth of April 1929, at exactly one o clock, the hero Alamud Deen went to the shop of Raajpaal and asked, Where is Raajpaal? Raajpaal himself replied, It is me. What work do you have? Our hero immediately took out his knife and attacked him and he continued stabbing him until he delivered him to Jahannam forever. He then said, This is the work I had with you.

Imam Bukhari (rahmatullahi 'alaih) narrates from Hadhrat 'ALI (radhiyallahu 'anhu) who said: "Narrate to the people that which they are acquainted with. Would you like that Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala and His Messenger Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam be rejected?" Adam ibn Abi Ilyas adds the words: "and leave out what they do not know" to this Hadith. The meaning of "that which they are acquainted with" is that which they understand. And the meaning of "what they do not know" is that whose understanding causes them confusion. As for the words: "Would you like that Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala and His Messenger Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam be rejected?" - this means that if a person hears something that he does not understand and which he does not conceive to be possible, he will believe it to be impossible out of ignorance. He will therefore not believe in its existence. Then if something of this nature is reported from Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam, he will necessarily reject it. And rejecting the words of Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam entails rejecting Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala. Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (rahmatullahi 'alaih) says: "In this Hadith there is proof that something is confusing should not be mentioned before the masses. Similar is the opinion of the Hadhrat IBN MAS'UD (radhiyallahu 'anhu) when he says: 'No sooner you relate a Hadith to a people who cannot fathom it, it becomes a source of distress and tribulation for some of them.' (Narrated by Muslim in the introduction to his Sahih, vol. 1 p. 76) "Among those who disliked narrating certain Traditions to the exclusion of others are: (1) Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahmatullahi 'alaih) with regard to the Traditions which outwardly show going against the leader, (2) Imam Malik (rahmatullahi 'alaih) with regard to the Traditions that mention the attributes [of Allah], i.e. those that outwardly portray similarity [to human attributes], (3) Imam Abu Yusuf (rahmatullahi 'alaih) with regard to Traditions in which particular words are mentioned (Gharibul Hadith), (4) The Sahabah/Companions ABU HURAYRAH, HUDHAYFAH (radhiyallahu 'anhumaa) and others who came before the previous three Imams also hold the same view." "The general rule is that if a Hadith apparently supports an innovation, when its actual import is something else, then it is desirable to hold back such a Hadith from a person of whom it is feared that he may act on its outward meaning. And Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala Knows best. (Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar (rahmatullahi 'alaih), Fath al-Bari, vol. 1 p. 225) Bukhari and Muslim narrate on the authority of Anas Bin Malik Radhiyallahu 'anhu who said: Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam was on his camel and Mu'adh Bin Jabal Radhiyallahu 'anhu was sitting directly behind him. [Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said to him] O Mu'adh! He replied: Here I am, O Rasulullah and I am pleased to be with you. Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said: O Mu'adh! He replied: Here I am, O Rasulullah and I am pleased to be with you. Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam said: O Mu'adh! He replied: Here I am, O Rasulullah and I am pleased to be with you.
