The Dead Need Support Not Those Who Are Alive – A Conversation between Maulana Umar Palanpuri and a Christian priest in South Africa.

Assalaamu wa alay wa rahmatullaah wa barakath,

Paraphrasing an anecdote from the life of a great scholar of the past century connected with the work of the Prophets, Maulana Umar Palanpuri (may Allah be pleased with him). This incident was related to us by Maulana Zain ul Aabideen (damath baraka tuhum) of Shah Waliullah Madrasah, India.

The first jamaÂ’t that went to South Africa landed at the airport and offered their Salah (prayers) in congregation right in the airport, this was something amazing, a view the locals and the travelers hadnÂ’t seen before, just seeing this manzar (view) made several hundred people their accepting Islam.

But not all were happy.

A Christian priest present there and witness to all the happenings came over to meet the jamaÂ’t and spoke to Maulana Umar Palanpuri (may Allah be pleased with him) who was present in that jamaÂ’t and asked:

“How is it that we (referring to the Christian missionaries) offer people jobs, wealth, women etc to convert to Christianity while you don’t do anything of that sort and yet people flock to you…??”

Maulana Umar Palanpuri (may Allah rabbul izzat grant him jannat ul Firdaus) replied:

“The dead need support not those who are alive!”

“Your religion, Christianity, is a dead religion and so you need those things to carry it, to sustain it, but not Islam, because Islam is alive and it DOES NOT need such things for it to spread, for people to see its beauty, for people to see the truth in it and for people to revert to Islam!”

Wa alay kum as salaam wa rahmatullah wa barakath.
