As salaamu Alaikum Dear Respected Mufti Saheb, There appears to be a new craze which has engulfed the muslim youth, this craze is Wristbands. They come in all different colours, bearing different messages. Some are for charities and some general. I was wandering whether they are allowed to wear these especially as you see many kids in the madressa. Jazakallahu Khair

Bismihi Ta'ala

The reason for wearing such bands are charitable reasons. Upon purchasing the band, a certain percentage of the amount is given in charity. However, this doesn't justify wearing it. The reason for this is:

1) It defeats the objective of charity. You are getting something in return.

2) Charity can be given in many other forms, it is not restricted to this form alone.

3) There is an element of imitating the non-believers in doing so, as this is a trend adopted by them and is gradually becoming a fashion.

For the above-mentioned reasons, it is not permissible to wear such wristbands.

And Allah knows best.

Mufti
