Assalamu-alaikum warahamtulahee wabarakatuhoo I would like to know whether it is permissable to have the mirena coil fitted if a person is suffering from heavy and continuous periods? This was a recommendation of the person's doctor. This particular method (coil) is usually used as a contraceptive. However the intention here is not for birth control but [i:e622ead9d5]to[/i:e622ead9d5] control heavy and prolonged bleeding. Looking forward to a prompt reply. Jazakallah for your time and may Allah (swt) reward your efforts - aameen. Wassalmu-alaikum P.S. Below is a link to some information about the mirena coil. http://www.ivillage.co.uk/health/whealth/articles/0,,180650_185074-2,00.html

Assalamu'alaikum w.w.

The use of the coil as a medical treatment for heavy
periods is permissible.
