Assalamu ALaykum,

The Ulama say that women shouldn't wear clothes that stick to them (since they reveal the figure) but does that include cardigans and coats because you can see the shape of the arm and the body too at time.

What's the ruling for that? Is it best to wear it underneath the jabba?

Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem
Al Jawaab Billahit-Tawfeeq

Respected sister,

Ulema have outlined a few conditions for observing true hijaab (covering) which are as follows:

- It must cover the whole body, from head to toe (including the face)
- It must not imitate the kuffaar clothing
- It must not imitate men's clothing
- It must not be see-through
- It must not be attractive
- It must not have bold designs
- It must be loose and flowy so the shape of your body is hidden
- It must not be perfumed

A woman may wear anything as long as she is dressed in accordance to all of the above conditions. Hence, if a woman were to wear outer clothing that revealed her shape extensively, it would be impermissible.

And Allah knows best

Ulamaa
