assalaamu alaikum,

In wudhu one needs to wash the inner portion of the beard but one does not need to wash the hair of the head. My question is what is the definition of where the hair of the head ends and where the beard starts e.g top of ear/middle of ear/bottom of ear etc.

JazakAllah

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Washing the face in Wadhu is where the hair and forehead meet (or if one is bald, then one would estimate where this parting would be, if one were not bald), to the soft part below the chin and ear to ear.

If one has a sparse beard (where the skin is visible) then washing and wetting the beard is Fardh. If one's beard is thick (where the skin is not visible) then washing of the beard is not necessary, but Khilaal is Sunnah. Khilaal is done by interweaving the fingers when wet and then drawing them apart. It can also mean refer to wiping between the toes or through one's beard.

And Allah knows Best
