my brother works at night, and so sleeps in day time, during the sleep he often misses zohr namaz (ba jamaat) and so he performs it later as qaza. he cannot awake at the prayer time. is it ok for him to qaza it in such a situation or he must wake up to perform it ba jamaat? isn't it an 'uzr' like illness etc?

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah's guidance)

Offering Salah (prayers) on its appropriate time is the most important thing for a Muslim.

Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said (nearest meaning): “Never delay 3 things, prayer when its time approaches......" (Tirmidhi, Ahmad)

Hence, it will not be permissible for a Muslim to miss Salah due to i.e sleeping, working etc.

And Only Allah Ta'ala Knows Best.
