Is it permissible for a muslim man to marry a second wife without the knowlege of his first wife, particularly if the second wife is not a muslim?

As-salaamu Alaikum sheikh,
Is it permissible for a muslim man to marry a second wife without the knowlege of his first wife, particularly if the second wife is not a muslim?
On the outset, a Muslim male is not permitted to marry a non-Muslim female. Knowledge or lack of knowledge on behalf of the first wife of this marriage will not effect the ruling.
