Assalamualikum Mufti Sahib. Please can you answer the following questions.

Can Salaat be prayed:

1. Towards an open fire.

2. Towards a mirror

3. What is the criterion for a screen between a person praying Salaat and people passing in front of him/her.

4. If we are praying in a large hall, can one pass the people praying behind you if you have finished praying. Or should you remain in that position until the person/people behind you have finished.

Jazakallah

Bismillah

Assalamu alaikum,

1. If the fire is placed before the person as an article of worship or to show any form of respect then is haraam and disbelief, and if kept merely to heat up the place or room then there is no harm.

2. It is permissible.

3. This does not necessarily refer to a screen rather any obstacle that is approximately 1/2 metre in height, that will be placed before the person. A simple stick of the mentioned height planted in the ground would suffice. The person should place the stick slightly to the left or or right, not exactly in the centre.

4. If the persons are directly behind you then you should wait for them to finish. If not directly behind then leaving a space of approximately 2 saffs/rows of Salaah one may pass across.

And Only Allah Ta'ala Knows Best.

Mufti
