Trade Union subscriptions halaal?

Assalaamu 'Alaykum warahmatullaah,

I would like to know what is the ruling regarding Trade Unions where you pay a regular fee for the Trade Unions' support and backing in work related issues? Is it permissable?

References would be appreciated, Jazakallaah.



It is permissible to join the trade union. However, it should be noted that you will only be allowed to recieve what is rightfully due to you. It is not permissible to take anything which has been taken wrongfully from the employer.
