Question: Bearing witness
As-Salaamu Alaikum,

In the Quran it states that it takes 2 women to bear witness about an issue or occurance (crime)where it only takes one man. Could you please give me clarification about this.

Bismillah

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah's guidance)

It is necessary in the Shari'ah that there be two men, or one man and two women. One man alone, or only two women are not sufficient witnesses in common dealings.

The witnesses should be Muslim.

The witnesses should be trustworthy and just whose word could be relied upon. They should not be sinners and liars.

(Ma'ariful Quran)

Allah Ta'ala says,

"And get two witnesses out of your own men. And if there are not two men (available), then a man and two women, such as you agree for witnesses, so that if one of them (two women) errs, the other can remind her."
(2: 282)

And Only Allah Ta'ala Knows Best.
