Question: surveillance cameras
Assalamu Alaikum Respected Ulama,
In our state it is permitted legally, to have surveillance cameras on school grounds. However, our school is a ladies college run by muslims. Would it be appropriate for administration most of who are muslim males to view any footage recorded during school hours? where female students and staff could have their awrah uncovered, as it is a female-only environment.
Jazakallah khairan

In the Name of Allah, the Inspirer of Truth.
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

It is permissible to install CCTV cameras for security
reasons.

However, the school should ensure that all male admin.
staff are responsible, pious and Allah-fearing people,
who would understand their responsibilities of
working in a female institution.

If there is a genuine security risk and a need to
monitor school grounds at all times, it would be
permissible for the male staff to check the footage.
In such cases, students should be advised to cover
their hair and bodies modestly when on the grounds.

And Allah knows Best
