Question: hajj or jammaat
i have made intention to go for hajj but my jamaat friends say that i should go for 40 days jamaat first then go for hajj but becase of work i can only do one or the other.what do you think is best hajj or 40 days in jamaat

Assalamu Alaikum,

There are five pillars of Islam- Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm (fast) in Ramadhan, and Hajj (if you have the ability- Health and Money) which are Fardh. However, 40 days in Jamaat is a Nifl act. One should therefore give priority to the Fardh (the obligation of Hajj).

In a Hadith narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas:

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: He who intends to perform hajj should hasten to do so.

*(Abu Dawud, Book 10, Number 1728)*
