Question: Pictures/TV
Assalamu'alaikum

I know that taking pictures and filming is haram! Then why is it that I see pious and practising muslims on TV (the Islam Channel). Are they committing a sin or is it permissible because it is benefitting other muslims?

Also is it allowed to take pictures with a mobile phone?

It is not permissible to take pictures or take part in tv programs. You must ask these individual Scholars for their reasons. I cannot comment on their actions. If they wish, they could have a program beyond a veil so no living object is seen. After all, tv isn't the only method of propagation.
