30. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Zayd Ibn Aslam رحمه الله narrated to us from 'Ata رحمه الله from Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbaas (رضي الله عنهما) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ate a portion of sheep and then prayed and he did not do wudu."

Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Muhammad Ibn al-Munkadir رحمه الله informed us from Muhammad Ibn Ibraheem al-Taymi رحمه الله from Rabi'ah رحمه الله from 'Abdullah رحمه الله that he took his evening meal with Sayyiduna 'Umar Ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) and then prayed and he did not do Wudu."

32. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Zamrah Ibn Sa'id al-Mazini رحمه الله informed me from Aban Ibn 'Uthman رحمه الله that Sayyiduna 'Uthmaan Ibn 'Affaan (رضي الله عنه) ate meat and bread, then rinsed his mouth and washed his hands, wiped them over his face and prayed and he did not do Wudu."

Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Yahya Ibn Sa'eed رحمه الله informed us, "I asked 'Abdullah Ibn 'Amir Ibn Rabi'ah al-Adawi رحمه الله about a man's doing Wudu' then eating from food which fire had touched [cooked], whether he should do Wudu due to that? He said, "I saw my father do that and he did not then do Wudu'."'"

34. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Yahya Ibn Sa'eed رحمه الله us from Bushayr Ibn Yasar رحمه الله, the mawla of Banu Haritha, that Suwayd Ibn Nu'man رحمه الله told him that he went out with the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the year of Khaybar, then when they reached as-Sahba', which is the nearest part of Khaybar, they prayed 'Asr. Then the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) called for the provisions and nothing was brought except sawiq [a meal of cooked grains], so he gave orders and it was mixed with water for them and the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ate and we ate. Then he got up for Maghrib and he rinsed his mouth and we rinsed our mouths; and then he prayed and he did not do Wudu'.'"

Imam Muhammad (رحمه الله) said: "And we adhere to this; there is no doing wudu' due to [eating] what fire has touched [cooked], nor from its entering [the body]. Doing Wudu is only necessitated by the exit [from the body] of impurities. So, as for the entry of any food which fire has touched, there is no need to do Wudu' as a result of it. That is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa, may Allaah, Exalted is He, have mercy on him."

7. A Man And A Woman Doing Wudu' From One Pot

35. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: Nafi' رحمه الله narrated to us from Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما), "Men and women used to do Wudu together in the time of the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم)."

Imam Muhammad (رحمه الله) said: There is no harm if a woman [wife] should do wudu or do ghusl with the man from one pot whether she starts before him or he before her; and that is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa, may Allah have mercy on him."

8. Doing Wudu' Because Of A Nosebleed

36. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Naafi' رحمه الله narrated to us that when Sayyiduna Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) had a nosebleed [during the prayer], he would, without speaking, leave, do Wudu', return and continue his prayer from where he had left off."

37. Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Yazeed Ibn 'Abdullah Ibn Qusayt رحمه الله narrated to us that he saw Sa'eed Ibn al-Musayyab رحمه الله having a nosebleed whilst he was praying, so he came to the room of Umm Salamah رضي الله عنها, the wife of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and a bowl [of water] was brought to him. He performed Wudu, then returned and continued his prayer from where he had left off."

38. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Yahya Ibn Sa'eed رحمه الله informed us that Sa'eed Ibn al-Musayyab رحمه الله was asked about how someone who has a nosebleed should pray where the bleeding has become profuse. He said, 'In the prayer he should perform its movements with his head only.'"

Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "'Abdur Rahman Ibn al-Mujabbar Ibn 'Abdur Rahman Ibn 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنهم) informed us that he saw his Salim Ibn 'Abdullah Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهم) put his finger, or two fingers, into his nose, then take them out with blood on them, pinch his nose and then pray without doing wudu."

Imam Muhammad (رحمه الله) said: "We conform to all of this. As for nosebleeds, Imam Malik Ibn Anas (رحمه الله) did not adhere to that and thought that when a man got a nosebleed in his prayer, he should wash the blood [away] and begin the prayer again.

As for Imam Abu Hanifa (رحمه الله), he based his view on what Imam Malik (رحمه الله) narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) and Sa'eed Ibn al-Musayyab (رحمه الله), that he should go, do wudu', then continue from where he had left off if he has not spoken; and that is our verdict.

As for the case where the nosebleed is such that when praying with head movements only, there is no bleeding, but when prostrating it bleeds, he should use head movements only, that being sufficient to discharge the prayer. However, if he bleeds no matter what his position, then he should prostrate. And as for the instance where a finger is placed in the nose and is removed with blood on it, this does not necessitate wudu', since it [the blood] is neither running nor dripping. Doing wudu becomes necessary only for that blood which runs or drips. And that is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa, may Allah have mercy on him."

9. Washing The Urine Of A Child

40. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Az-Zuhri رحمه الله narrated to us from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah رحمه الله from Umm Qays bint Mihsan (رضي الله عنها), that she brought a young son of hers, who had not yet eaten food, to the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam). The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) placed him in his lap and he urinated on his garment; he called for water and sprinkled it and did not wash it."

Imam Muhammad (رحمه الله) said: "A concession has been granted concerning the urine of a boy who has not eaten food; and an order has been given to wash the urine of a girl. And washing both of them is preferable to us; and this is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa, may Allah have mercy on him"

41. Imam Malik رحمه الله informed us: "Hisham ibn 'Urwah رحمه الله informed us from his father from Ummul Mu'mineen 'A'isha (رضي الله عنها), that she said, "A baby boy was brought to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and he urinated on his garment, so he called for water and poured it over it.""

Imam Muhammad (رحمه الله) said: "We accept this [report] and we follow it up with washing until clean; and this is the verdict of Imam Abu Hanifa, may Allah have mercy on him."
