This is my musings and meanderings thread here and I intend to use this thread to expand on those points where paucity of time and space would not allow elaboration in other threads.
A brother had asked me to clarify about psychological trials of Rasoolallah (SAW).
Here are some of my pondering on this issue.
People are usually impressed by physical discomfort taken by people upon them.
Like fasting.
People appreciate when someone fats.
This is taken as a great Mujahida.
It is.
But there are greater struggles.
For example the struggle to keep yourself on Sunnah is a greater struggle.
This sinner intends to do it.
And this sinner says it in spite of having, by the unbound Grace of Allah (SWT), got quite some more insight bout mystic things. This happened during listening to special Majalis of Pr Zulfiqar Ahmed Sahab Naqshbandi (DB).
But this sinner intends to stick to Sunnah rather than the exotica of mysticism.
This sinner can not keep himself absolutely away from mysticism but intentionally the focus now onwards is Sunnah and Sunnah.
Outrightly so.
Pir Zulfiqar Sahab (DB) too mentioned same thing along the same lines from Mujaddid-e-Alf-e-Thani (RA).
Let the Kashf-o-Khawariq be for the people of taste but for me it is Sunnah - he said.
I had similar things in my mind when I said the same thing to my beloved Shaikh a few years ago.
My beloved Shaikh was worried - he thought I had lost faith in Sulook.
Far from it.
I ended up in the company of my beloved Shaikh because of worldly problems and I, then and now, intend to solve them.
Using Islam. In the mystic manner. With an intention to be a very humble servant of Allah (SWT), to be a believer, to be on the right path.
And Sunnah is the tool for that end.
And remaining on Sunnah is the greater struggle.
Common people think fighting hunger is the big struggle. But that is for them.
Once you step beyond most basic teachings of Islam you realize that there are far greater struggles then mere physical discomfort.
Hunger disappears immediately after Iftar.
If you call some one a bad name then the hurt does not go away even if that person eats his choicest food.
It is a different trial. This was emotional trial. It is psychological trial.
So when Abu Lahab said that Rasoolallah (SAW) has become Abtar, cut-off from having future generations, this was a big trial.
That camel intestine was dumped on him while praying in the courtyard of Kaba was a trial.
But the taunt about his son dying was a bigger trial.
Allah (SWT) removed that pain by Surah Kausar. Your enemy is cut-off from having any future generations and not you -said Allah (SWT).
No amount of eating good food would have removed that hurt. No amount of consolation from Sahaba (RA) would have removed that hurt. Allah (SWT) removed that psychological hurt. Allah (SWT) carried on beloved Prophet (SAW)'s future generations through his daughter Fatima (RA).
( Kindly also remember that this is a special gift of Islam to womankind. We usually do not advertise it to the people and Shia people misuse it to declare themselves as Chosen People.)
So there is physical pain and there is psychological and emotional pain.
Latter is more severe.
Spiritual pain is most severe.
Hazrat Imam Ghazali (RA) left his teaching in the Nizamiya College of Baghdad in the middle of his class while he was at the peak of his career.
He closed himself in the inaret of a mosque in Egypt for six years.
And when he came out he was Hujjat-ul-Islam, Proof of Islam.
Soon Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) too will wander over places for a decade before settling in his spiritual life.
Turmoils in the life of beloved Rasoolallah (SAW) were of course the greatest.
I'll end this post with one example only: Beloved Prophet (PBUH) wanted to destroy himself by jumping from a mountain when the revelation did not continue after the first "Iqra" episode.
there are many other episodes of trial in his later life. I suppose these few examples will suffice for now.
And that is the end of Dawah by the Praise of Lord Most High, the Cherisher of the worlds.
The sunnah of safah ie turban is hardly followed now a days. Dr76 sahab is gearing up to launch a campaign to revive this sunnah of rasulallah. You are on next....
Last year I did wear a turban.
An 'Alim friend became jealous and said I should get rid of it.
The same 'Alim who declared that his 'Ilm is 'Ilm and my 'Ilm is mere information.
Brother FususalHikam and Dr Abu Tamim were using book cover designs as their avtars at SF. I found that rather effective. Then I looked for a book for the same purpose. Thinking of myself as a beginner in Islam, as I was then and now, I thought Noorani Qaida to be perfect choice.
His objection was a bit harsh though, yet it can't be denied that wearing the turban is the prerogative of ulama, and we are the laymen who do self study whereas they spend 6 to 8 years to get the ilm under the guidance of the great ulama of that madarsa they're the students whereof. It's also reminded to all of us that after this long period when the students have completed their study they're honoured by having been crowned the turban by other great ulama. So this kind of jealous is possible.
I think we should not mind it.
I appreciate that sooner you realized this fact.
And I know that your intention was of performing a sunnah while wearing the turban on your head.
This cannot be undone and I am sure it will be greatly appreciated.
