By the grace of Allah I will be blessed with a child in the coming year, inshallah, so I thought I should start thinking of a name.

I have full intentions to ensure, inshallah, my son / daughter is at the minimum a Hafiz of the quran and an Alim/Alima.
Then, if Allah blesses us further they will go on to become Molana's / Mufti's ect etc...

I have already been to visit Shaykh Fazle Haq, to the girls boarding school in Lancaster (Fantastic) and already have very close contacts to other main stream scholars who we all hear of all the time, to recommend a place for a son.

Inshallah make Dua this goes to plan, hence why ive moved to Qatar to do everything I can to make this happen in the future.

Anyhoo, having a strong name is very improtant so can you guys help please. You might be helping to name a future scholar inshallah.

So lets begin, I havent thought of any names yet, but would like : -

If its a son, then a double barrel name.

If its a girl, something different, not so frequently heard of.

Any history to go with the name would be excellent.

And its got to sound good with the surname MALEK.........Gujji by the way ;)

How about Hanifa. (True Beliver)

You would be called Abu Hanifa.

I have named my son and daughter "Praiseworthy".

InshaAllah, keeping a good name will benefit the child in this world. Keep a good name that will reflect upon the child. Every child or person will also be addressed with its name and the fathers name, not the surname, so please select wisely.

Many people who name their child Muhammad also add an additional name to show respect to the Prophets name. This has no basis in Islam and you can name a boy just Muhammad. Others hold the belief that a child must be named on the 7th day and not earlier, this too is not correct. The child can be named on the day, the next day, etc. etc. There is a Hadith in which the Prophet SAW announced that he had son (last nite) and named him Ibrahim.

Muhammad, or Ahmad

It is related that Surayj ibn Yunus (ra) said, "Allaah has angels who, as part of their worship, visit every house which has an Ahmad or Muhammad in it because of the honour in which they hold Muhammad."

Ja'far ibn Muhammad (ra) related that his father said, "A call will be given on the Day of Rising: Let whoever is named Muhammad stand up and enter the Garden by virtue of the honour of his name, may Allaah bless him and grant him peace."

Ibn al-Qasim (ra) and Ibn Wahb (ra) said that Malik (ra) said, I hears the people of Makkah say that there is no house in which there is the name Muhammad which does not prosper and the people of that house are provided for as are their neighbours.

The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "None of you will be harmed if he has one, two, or three Muhammads in his house." (Ibn Hanbal, al-Bazzar and at-Tabarani)

(ash-Shifa of Qadi Iyad (ra), pp 89-90)
