The fatwa is very clear. Each one of us will interpret it according to our personal inclinations.

Jamiarur-Rashed Fatwa on “Diriliş: Ertuğrul”

Response:

It should be noted that there is disagreement amongst Ulama on the matter of digital photography. Some of them are inclined towards its permissibility while others are inclined towards impermissibility. In our opinion, there is some scope (of permissibility) of using and watching digital photography.

It is therefore our opinion that there is some latitude in watching and reselling the (Turkish Drama) entitled “Diriliş: Ertuğrul” because this drama highlights (aspects of) Islamic history, culture and heritage which is a need of our times.

However, since this drama also has women characters, looking at women should be avoided. If it is difficult for a person to avoid looking at women then it will not be permissible for the person to look at this dramabecause of the Fiqh principle “avoidance of harm takes precedence overperceived benefit”. Thus if by watching the drama the guarding of the gaze iscompromised then it would be obligatory to avoid the sin and it will not be permissibleto watch this drama.

[24:30] Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do.

Personal clarification: I genuinely hope that this Fatwa is FAKE. I wholeheartedly disagree with the Fatwa, its reason, it's rationale and background. I translated it for English speaking Muslims to read, understand, ponder and then make up their minds. It is part of my quest to try to understand the FACTS before disagreeing, everyone has the right to disagree but disagree after understanding an issue!

The above Fatwa was leaked without proper authorisation. It has now been retracted and replaced. It is not permissable to watch “Diriliş: Ertuğrul

Don't want to come across as someone who is always criticising scholars but this takes the biscuit. Of all the things to give a fatwa about they choose ertugrul? I'm not saying this simply cos I watch ertugrul but they pick small issues whilst silent on major ones

Also shouldn't they be more concerned about the filth Pakistan watches? Bollywood Hollywood lollywoood. Isn't Pakistan apparently number 1 in world for viewers of pornography? Also I doubt 99% Pakistan even heard of ertugrul. They released their own version recently of a Pak/Muslim soldier. Someone sent me a clip on WhatsApp recently about it.

They receive numerous questions and they answer as they come. It's accepted that bollywood, Hollywood, Lollywood and pornography are haram so why would they need to repeat that when answering question on ertugrul
